Glass cleaner comparison Auto Finesse, Adam's, Chemical Guys...

XxBoostinxX...I haven't tried the Meg's perfect clarity. I think I'm done hunting for glass cleaners and will stick with these three 'til I run out then finally pick one of them to stick with.

Mr. Gloss...I agree, technique is key. I also realized towel style based on personal technique is more important than the actual cleaner being used. I find I like to use two waffle weave towels and not the typical flat no nap glass towels. I've tried all combos of towels just to see what works for me. One waffle for the wet working of the cleaner and the other to follow behind as a dry buffer. With two towels, one being dry, streaks are pretty much eliminated from the equation. I also never do windows in direct sun or on hot glass. Just did it in my review since I know some people have to do that due to no garage so I gave them the torture test.

Bunky...I never used to concern myself with scents but now that so many products come in better scents I find it does guide me just a little bit. Of course in the end I usually end up with a gallon of what works best and easiest and an odd bottle of the other stuff since effectiveness is what matters most but every once in a while I let my nose lead me to pick up one bottle Vs another to use that day. Which is why I seem to have so many variations of the same products, whatever my mood calls for. With the glass cleaners if I want my windows done fast I'll use Crystal and be done. If I'm doing the interior and am in no rush and want it to smell good I'll use Glassworkz. Silly decisions like that.

I believe glass cleaning is more about proper technique and tools and less fuss about a product. Glass cleaning products are offered in hundreds of formulations because they know people will buy them based on their good scent, not superior cleaning ability.

There are probably a few guys here that own every glass cleaner known to man and still fail to get satisfactory results. :)

That is what I thought. I use a glass towel when I am cleaning but still streaks. Maybe I will try the waffle weave technique instead. Or maybe just go back to good ole newspaper technique. Lol

Ok cool. Do you happen to know the price difference between the three? I know Adams is pretty pricy and CG is usually the best bang for your buck.

I won't post links since that's not fair to Autopia but Glassworks can be found for as little as $7.49 for 16oz. Adam's is $12.95 for 16oz. Crystal is $11.99 for 250ml (8.45oz) and $18.99 for 500ml (16.9oz).

Since Auto Finesse is imported from the UK and the other two are USA made the price jumps up due to higher shipping/importing costs. On the Auto Finesse site minus Vat (since USA residents don't have to pay Vat when buying UK products) 500ml of Crystal is listed at $12.60. So if not for the pricey shipping costs it would actually be cheaper than Adam's, but unfortunately there's no way around the crazy shipping costs from the UK to USA and thus the high price.

sprocketser...Thanks!

silverrebel...Yeah, they're all tint safe. Ammonia is the tint killer (turns it purple) and none of these have ammonia.

Totally understand. Thanks though bud. I think I'll give the CG Glassworks a try and go from there. Thanks again for your review!

I think I'm going to order a gallon of Meg's D120 (thanks for the tip ihaveacamaro) to see how it compares to the above three. That stuff is so cheap per gallon since the 1 gallon concentrate makes 11 gallons I figure it's worth a shot based on value alone.

Like I really need more glass cleaner haha.

Excellent review. I happen to like CG Glassworks a lot. The only hint I have is dilute it. I've been playing around with it a lot lately after picking a gallon up cheap. 1:4 seems to be a good ratio for me. Cleans excellent and at this ratio, no streaks. However, I never do it in the sun so your mileage may very in that aspect. Excellent review though.

I used all three glass cleaners again today since I have some Meg's D120 on the way to compare to them I wanted to try some new towels with the three I compared already and my thoughts still stand. AF works best but has an almost overpowering alcohol smell, Adam's is great all around, CG smells best but suffers a bit in performance (very minor difference between it and Adam's when properly used on cool windows in shade as I always do).

So I could live with any of them with my cleaning method and only using them in the shade of the garage on cool windows.

I have a feeling D120 may be what I've been hunting for since it has alcohol in it (which AF does and seems to help it work the best, but with no scent to hide its nearly overpowering odor) and it supposedly smells good like grape.
