Getting Serious: Add a rotary to my arsenal?

I started my detailing-the-right-way career in spring of '05, and have since gained a wealth of knowledge through these forums, and even moreso through experience. I've been using a PC for most everything, and doing the rest by hand. Sometimes it takes forever to get any cut, even with an SSR3 equivalent and a medium cutting pad on speed 6. While my previous thought was "any quality job is worth being patient with", I'm getting to the point where its like "using the PC for this instead of a rotary is a waste of my time, thus money." Since I'm already lined up for several jobs, some of which are pretty significant in the severity department, do I need to be looking at a rotary?

I have Optimum Compount, Menzerna IP and FP, RMG and VM all on the way.

If I should make this move, what rotary and pads should I get?

Thanks so much in advance for any advice you all can offer. Your collective input has proved invaluable to my detailing career.

This is just my opinion but yes you do need a rotary. I'm one who believes you need one of each. I use my PC a lot but there are some things that are just best left to a rotary. Take a look at Makita.

i just bought a rotary and is being shipped as we speak.

i too came to the point where I was getting tired of the PC on '6' with an orange pad and compound, and not getting the results i needed.

when you're going over the surace 2-3 times with compound...then its time for a Rotary. i also hope it cuts down on time,,,which I dont seem to have much of theses days.

I will be using the rotary for heavy cutting, then switching to PC for the polishing and LSP's.

So, I'm kinda short on money. Is there an inexpensive yet effective rotary I can shoot for in the short term, or is this like the PC where you should just get the right thing up front? What would you guys do?

Are you only taking care of your personal vehicles, which I'm sure are well maintained?

If so, then No, you don't need a rotary. You can get most "serious" defects out with the use of an orbital. Will it take more time than with a rotary? Yes. But why spend all the money on a rotary for something that can potentially cause a lot of damage unless you have experience with it and something you won't be using too often.

I have a rotary and it pretty much never touches my personal vehicles. Why? Because they just don't need it with regular care.

Did you read my thread above? I have a HF rotary that costs about $30 shipped. I will sell it to you cheap ~ $20 shipped. It is very effective and is an excellent starter rotary. I cut my teeth with it using it for 3 full details!
