Getting 90%+ from one step!

Hey all!

I have never detailed an engine before and would like to get some advice and tips.First off do you guys always rinse and or wash the engine compartment when you wash the exterior of the car,if not how often?What do you use to wash the painted wheel wells and other parts that are hard to reach?I was looking at the engine compartment on my car looks like lots of hard to get to areas.Tips on brushes,mitts,soap and or cleaners PLEASE!I did do a search did not come up with much.Thanks

I have not clicked on the link because I don't have that much time but one pointer. Clean the engine bay BEFORE you detail your exterior. Just about all engine detail products I know of are known to strip any protective layering you have on your car since the spray will spatter and when you rinse it will just go everywhere (it does on me since I use a high pressure hose).

Black 09 CTS with HEAVY swirls and holograms, using the PC XP with LC orange on speed 6 with Menz SIP. Never got 90%+ from one stage before!! This is crazy! And it has a great gloss and no micromarring either. Just thought I'd share

Yeah, as long as you don't have crazy hard paint or severe marring, SIP does a great job. I've never seen it finish down perfectly, though. A quick and easy combo that has worked well for me is SIP/orange followed by UF/black. A lot of people prefer to follow SIP with 106, but I don't see a need for 106's cut given how well SIP finishes out.

Sip finishes well, but 85rd with a black/blue pad will give it that final touch.

The orange foam was originally designed as a 1 step foam at the OEM level and will finish out quite nice on a DA. Again, at the OEM level, SIP is sometimes used for finishing, and on rock hard paint you can create a highly reflective surface with this combination. Is there more to be gained by going over it with a finer polish? Perhaps... But for a one step I am sure the results are stunning!

I did a couple new test spots with tape and again got 90%+ It might be 95, but I'll let you guys judge if it is...

Pics look great Jeff. I find that some polishes need at least 4 wipedowns with straight IPA. I do 5 on at least one section of the car.

great job. i've found that sip does finish wel with a white lc pad. almost to where there's no need to jewel afterwards.
