Gentlemen, what is your shaving regimen

Hello everyone.

After I got the schick quattro in the mail the other week for free, I have been shaving with that rather than the electric. I am trying to get a better and easier shave and was wondering what your process is. Here is what I do:

-Hot Shower to smooth skin
-Gillete Sensitive Skin Shave gel
-Shave with the grain, L+R checks, upper lip, chin, neck L to R
-Rinse with cool Water
-Aloe Vera Lotion
-Aeropostale Cologne 5 minutes after lotion.

Ah yes, shaving . . .

First, I always shave in the shower. Shaving in the shower is the best way because the steam opens your pores, keeps the shaving cream from drying out, and softens your beard. I have a great mirror that I bought at Bed, Bath, & Beyond that has a hook to hang my razor on and it never fogs. This is my regimen . . .

1. Rub Art of Shaving pre-shave oil into entire beard
2. Apply shaving cream to face with a badger hair shave brush (currently I'm using some Italian shaving cream my girlfriend's father bought me, but before I was using Art of Shaving)
3. Shave with the grain (currently using a Gillette Fusion Power although it clogs quickly and needs to be rinsed often)
4. Re-apply shaving cream with brush
5. Shave against the grain
6. Rinse shaving cream off with hot water
7. Soak face with cold water to close the pores
8. Apply Art of Shaving after shave balm (my girlfriend LOVES the sandalwood scented one)

I know I've listed a number of steps, but it really doesn't take much longer than my prior shaving regimen.
 
I only shave once a week, seeing as I don't have a job where I have to be clean looking, etc.

Trim long whiskers off with Norelco Pop-Out trimmer
Go over with Norelco Razor.
 
I have to shave every day since I work with vitamins and have to protect the integrity of the product. I usually just wake up, forego the shaving cream and just start shaving. Then after my shower I put on some facial moisturizer, I got some from LaCoste that smells really nice.
 
I don't get to fancy with the shaving regimen. I shave after i take a shower

1. wet my face.
2. apply shaving cream
3. Shave with the grain
4. rinse and dry and i'm done.

I've got good skin as it is so i don't use to many lotions and such.

I really like the Art of Shaving line. It's pricey, but I find I need to use less of it. A $20 tub of AOS for me lasts as long as 4-5 cans of Gillette shaving cream. So, in the end the cost is pretty comparable. Plus, I find I get less skin irritation, my skin is softer, I get less ingrown hairs, and what seems like a closer shave. I can only imagine the AOS products soften the hairs which result in a better shave. The best part is my girlfriend loves the smell of AOS sandalwood products. If she likes the way I smell then that's a win for me.

If you want to try out AOS, they make a kit which comes with a brush and small bottles of shaving cream, after shave balm, and pre-shave oil. The kit sells for $38. It's a great deal because the brush in the kit normally sells for $50 by itself. AOS pricing is weird because if you buy something in a kit it's usually WAY cheaper than if you buy it by itself.

During my last two trips to Las Vegas, I've visited the AOS store in Mandalay Bay. Both times, I got an old fashioned straight razor shave. It's a little scary, but you'll never get a closer shave. Plus, the barber will usually talk to you about how you can improve your shaving regimen.
 
I shave every 2-3 days usually, I hate shaving and would hate to do it every day...
I've got a pack of disposables, a can of shaving cream, I'm a simpleton and just shave with the grain and that's about it I guess :D
 
I shave once or twice a week whether I need it or not. :D I didn't even have to shave that often till I was 28. On one hand I look like I'm 19 years old and it is difficult to get people to take me seriously sometimes. On the other hand I'll look like I'm 40 when I'm 60. :) I'm sure it will be worth it someday.
 
1. Remember at 7:25 that I need to shave, and I better do it quick so I can make it out the door by 7:30
2. Slather on a handful of the cheapest shaving cream I can find.
3. Pull out the same 10 for a buck disposable that I've been using for 9 weeks.
4. Shave with the grain, against the grain, across the grain, whichever gets it done quickest.
5. Control the bleeding.
6. Ask my wife to clean the sink as I make a mad dash out the door.
 
-Take shower and wash face with Menscience Soap-Free Daily Face Wash (http://www.menessentials.com/oxid.p...c8f0.12772333/anid/65e4151f20fee2614.05612192)

-Pat dry and apply Avid SkinGlider in circular motions covering each area with 4-5 passes

-Allow 1-2 minute dwell time to further soften hair folicles and skin

-Using a Gillette Custom Plus Twin-Blade Razor (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001LQGHO/102-3786931-8506533?v=glance&n=3760901), begin with left side, finshing up with under jaw line shaving WITH the grain.

-Rinse with warm water, re-wash with Menscience Cleanser, and pat dry.

-Apply ProActiv Toner with cotton pad

-Apply ProActiv Acne cream to troubled area(s)

-Apply ProActiv SPF15 Oil-Free Face Moisturizer 2 minutes after Acne Cream

Same way for me.
i just shave with a gilette mach 3(or whatever it is) i don't use shaving cream or even water.

Nothing set in stone,
after shower, sometimes I'll use shaving cream (still using the same can from 3 years ago), mainly use just water, if no water just a dry shave.

So I guess that mean I don't really have a regimen...Wow thats pretty wild I have stricter regimen for washing my car than shaving my face :rofl

IMO the key elements for a good shave are:

  • Start with a clean face
  • Use a quality badger-hair brush
  • Use a quality shave soap or cream (as opposed to an aerosol foam or gel) A pre-shave oil isn't a necessity when using a good soap/cream, but I do use Shave Secret
  • Use a fresh/sharp blade. My current personal preference is the Mach3, but I'm sure there are very good options other than this one.

Except during the dry winter months I rarely use an after-shave product. When I do, I generally use an aloe/witch hazel product called WitchVera. Using the Shave Secret also helps with any skin chafing.
