Full time mobile detailers?

A place near me distributes tuner car parts. Out front you will find two bentlys, a ferrari and two tricked out hummers. I hit them up for detailing and they told me that if I could beat their current detailers price I was in.



Their detailer was charging $12 a car and $15 for the hummers for washes!!!!!!!



He was getting about $80 for a detail!



I am seeing that more and more. It is crazy.

Sounds like the IT business. I remember selling programmers for $250/hr and Cisco CCIE's for $300/hr 6 years ago. Now I am lucky to sell them for $120.00/hr.



I did see it stabilize and I have adapted, most of the cheap competitors are gone, but the companies still arent paying the old fictional rates.



Things will stabilize, the quick buck artists come and go, you have to be in it for the long term.

Yes biz is tough. Low ballers are like ants around here and poeple are going for them.



I have my core of loyal clients but the new ones don't want to pay what a trained, insured and long time detail company needs to charge to make a decent living.

Man, ain't that the truth. I love what I do to hell and back, but darn is it a hard way to earn a "good" living. I think theh only people making big money at this own a car wash and have a bunch of low-wage workers working for them, and they take advantage of people by charging a good price and offering crap for services.



I too am fortunate enough to already have a core of loyal customers that pretty much keep me booked, but I can only charge so much (and it isn't enough to get rich, that's for sure).

I think if you want to get rich detailing you either need to be a brilliant marketer (see Miracle Detail), or a total workhorse. Even @ 7 days a week I am making good money, but not amazing; and my prices are on the high side of average.

And I just bout a $950,000 fixer and need to be able to make my payments. :lol



I'm probably able to charge 25% more cause I live in a rich neighborhood, but it costs me 200% more to live. Oh well, I got some things in the hopper that should help.
