hey folks i need some suggestions. my bride and i are flying to ft, lauderdale on monday for a few days and i was wondering if there is anything that is a can't miss. we are heading to miami one day to see the art deco district and get a tattoo. then renting a harley another day and riding to the keys. any good ideas would be appreciated.

Go to the southern most part in the us while your in the keys. You say your going to get some ink while in miami? Your not going to that miami ink that has a show on tv now are you?

Go to South Beach and visit Miami Ink, get a tattoo while intoxicated, spend the rest of your life regretting it.

I record Miami Ink every week on my DVR. I'll keep an eye out for you. I lived in Miami for several years. The only thing I would say is a "must see" is South Beach. Part of the reason I moved out of Miami is that there's not much history or culture to the area (also the laid back lifestyle drove me insane as I need more stress in my life). In some ways this is what makes Miami such a great vacation spot. It's more of a big giant lounge than it is a sight seeing destination.

spend sometime on the beach. Just make sure to wear your sunglasses as the misses may find you eye-wandering a bit.

TrueDetailer: i am planning on checking out miami ink, i like there talent and will only be hindered by pricing. usually $100.00/hour is going rate. we are hoping to make it to the end of the keys on the bike.

LastDetail:i won't be drunk when i get it.

joyriide1113:thanks for the advice on the sunglasses. i know my wife wants to sit on the beach. i might as well enjoy the scenary.

Mikeyc: that is why we are going, to get away from stress, so we should be ok than. thanks guys. chat with you in a week.

I was just at miami ink a few weeks ago. Don't be surprised when you get there and you don't see any familar faces. All the guys you see on tv, only tattoo by appointment and your lucky enough to get one of those with them. The place is actually tiny in size, and there are a few nobodys in there tattooing. Not saying you can't get a good piece there but not by the famous artists. From what i hear they go everywhere and do mobile tattooing since they are some of the greatest artist around and that they are famous now.

As long as the weather is great you are going to love riding the Harley to the keys. If you make it all the way down you have to hit the sunset festival in Mallory Square. Its every night starts just a lit before sunset.

hey folks, south florida is beautiful. temps weren't bad. high 50's first day, high 60's 2nd day on the bike to the keys. went to the end of the 7 miles bridge(what a beautiful sight) turned around and came back. that was a LONG day. we didn't make it down to key west because it was 20 or 30 miles from the bridge and that would have added a couple of more hours onto the day. we were on the bike for ten hours so it was longer than my bride is used to already. good day though. 3rd day in miami was high 70's. nice breeze and nice women :w00t: :w00t: i took your advice joyride with the sunglasses!!. checked out miami ink and nearly crapped myself with the price. i knew i wouldn't get a star from t.v., but i figured the help they have must be good artists, and the place would be clean and government inspected. i asked fro a cross on my chest, and they quoted me $350.00  this is not my first tattoo and i know it is not a $350.00 piece. the guy said it would take a 1/2 hour to do. i can get that same piece here in windsor from a good artist for about $150.00 cnd. so i said no thanks. the last day in the 80's was spent at he pool and ft. lauderdale beach and shopping areas. relaxing and soaking up the sun and getting burnt beyond belief. great area to visit and see.

Great and exciting to visit. Horrible to live in. Daily commute sucks. Prices for homes are ridiculus, and if you're from a nice small town where everyone is friendly, FORGET ABOUT IT.

You want ridiculous home prices try moving to the northeast. In cities like Boston & NY prices are easily double or even more for housing that is at least 10 times as old as the units in Miami.

I totally agree with you about commuting in Miami. The traffic is unbelievable. I would say mostly due to the fact that public transportation is virtually non-existant. Also, I frequently saw traffic accidents. Contributing to this is that there is no state mandated auto inspection. I used to get behind a car at least once a day that did not have even a single functioning brake light.

Anyway, I love vacationing in Miami. However, living there drove me insane and I had to get out of there ASAP.

the traffic on the turnpike was very busy but fun to ride through. i was very impressed with amount of police pressence. in what looked like a traffic crackdown, there was 8 or 10 police vehicles stopping people. all over the ft. lauderdale to miami area i saw a lot of police. good to see from a tourist standpoint. there was two accidents on the other side of the turnpike heading back to ft. lauderdale and the back was nuts. i wouldn't be able to deal with that. too many years around a small town of 6000 people.

I'd love to live in a small community NEAR a big city. That way I'd be able to do things such as grocerys, and small town errands without being stuck in traffic.

The think with miami, is that nearly every single area, even its sub cities (kendall, hialeah, doral, ect) are all packed.

My favorite memory in Miami was regularly turning on the news and hearing about a police check point. This is absolutely the most :censored: stupid thing I've ever heard. The check point is there to catch unlicensed/uninsured drivers and the news is broadcasting its exact location so people can avoid it. Bunch of :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: if you ask me.
