Frustrated!!!!!!!

I washed and took some pics of my dad's BMW 328i Vert. I have to say this car makes me question my detail skills. It looks great in regular light, but under the halogens its a nightmare. I am a perfectionist so I bought the rotary to help correct this car. The paint is Jet black and is extremely soft. I bet if you took the softest microfiber and buffed one spot for a minute or so, you would end up really damaging the paint.:( Here are a few before and afters, along with all of the scratches and swirls that are there:wall, and its killing me!!!!!:mad:

Process

Wash:
Meguiars NXT
Two Bucket Method

Exterior:
Poorboys QD

Interior:
Vacuumed
Windows=Invisible Glass
Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner
Poorboys Leather Dressing

Wheels/Wheel Well, and Engine:
Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner
Meguiars Wheel Brightener
Meguiars Hyper Dressing
Poorboys Tire Dressing

You can see that I was practicing my skills with the rotary on this black hood. The left side I used Pinnacle Polish via White Polishing Pad with Makita on speed setting 3 (1500). You can see a difference but its not close to perfect. Anyone have any suggestions? I am debating going to Detail Kings seminar to learn more on Rotary Use. This makes me really respect you guys who are masters with the Rotary. Its a definate skilled trade/art!!!!!!!

Thanks for looking. Anyone with Rotary skills near Columbus and want to help me out with some tips and guidance would be appreciated ALOT!!! Thanks guys for looking. I will keep everyone posted!!

JB BMW = Welcome to my world = career.

Don;t sweat it too much. How many passes with the rotary did you do?

I did not touch the BMW with the Makita yet. I did not do any work with my PC on as well because I really want to correct it with the Rotary. On the spare hood with the rotary I probley spent 10 minutes or so on the left side. A number of passes!!!!

Yeah, the Hyper Dressing was still drying and needed to be wiped down if your wondering what that is. Just snapped a quick pic!

Don't beat yourself up to bad...I've owned two JB BMW cars and they are close to impossible to get back to 100% and even harder to maintain that way...Halogen lights are unforgiving of anything in the paint...in natural light you will not see that to speak of...You might want to start using a glaze like PB black hole before you head for your LSP...it can fill in those minor swirls that are left...and it also great as a maintenance product between major rotary polishing

I had the same problem with my vette looked great outside ,Put the lights on it i wanted to smack someone, ended up using rotary,megs105,Sip,ultrafina not sure if you can go that route on BMW

Thanks guys for the feedback. I know this can be corrected by a skilled detailer with expertise using the rotary. I am just mad I am not that guy yet. But I am working on it. I will try getting some of this cleaned up with the PC, just for peace of mind until I get more Rotary practice. I do not want to make matters worse!!!!!

I was also frustrated and said the hell with it i jumped right in and used the rotary.I see many postings that guys want to learn using a pc first then try a rotary from what i have tried they aren't even close other then using the same pads.So learning with a pc isn't going to help you learn a rotary my opinion ,You can try a rotary on junk yard panels true.I learned one thing with the rotary keep it moving, know the product your using how it breaks down, flashes, ask questons about the product before using it so you know what to expect,But without someone there holding you hand pictures and typing words can't replace just doing it.Go slow and carefull you can do it.My2 cents.

Don't despair mi amigo. I've had a few of those "why can't I do this" experiences with my rotary when I first started out and still struggle with a few challenges here and there. If it's any consolation, BMW Jet Black is the doctorate thesis for even the most skilled detailers. Some of the pro's have even abandoned rotary use altogether on this specific paint and opt for very mild polishes and a PC. This is NOT the one to perfect your rotary skills on. The Jet Black I am referring to is the 07 and after (maybe 06 and after). It's a whole different story even compared to the older BMW blacks.

I have a 335i in Black Sapphire and wanted Jet Black initially. Having researched this color on some of the BMW detailing forums I decided I didn't want to be a slave to that beast it's entire life and decided to get the more workable metallic black. Jet Black has to be the softest paint on the planet and is VERY difficult to get perfect. I mean seriously, ugly women walk by and it swirls.

Keep plugging with your rotary on more normal paint and you'll restore your confidence again quickly.

GREAT post! :bigups I went through the same decision. I was so glad that I found out about the JB before I bought it.

Like I told you in the other thread and others have mentioned here, JB BMWs are the worst paint to work on. Patience grasshopper! It will never be "easy" to take care of, but you will get the hang of it.

Oh sure, make me happy about my ownership choice.

Don't get me wrong Ron, I REALLY wanted that color and came extremely close to getting it. It is stunning and looks unbelievable when it's done right and cared for which I'm sure your's is.

Well its good to know that it is one of the toughest paints to correct. I have been stuck inside all winter and not had a chance to detail to much. Then I worked on this car all day Saturday and saw there was not much I can do unless I know how to use the rotary. It's like I need to get the rust off and I picked the hardest car to do that with. I am going to detail my truck hopefully this weekend if its not raining. It needs polishing, engine detailing, and alot of undercarriage work. I will post those pics so you guys can see some of my work. At this point, I fell I should be displaying my work on Autobell's website. Haha. Thanks for the compliments guys!!

Gotta  that logo.

Thanks Tmac. I was really happy to see the way it turned out. The only downside is that if a regular car is behind me they cannot see my phone number. But that was really the only place we could place it and it would not mess up the look. Thanks again!!!!
