I go to Java City every morning on the way to my real job and always get great service from the morning crew. I always pay with my debit card so never hit the tip jar, just cuz I am never touching any money. I LOVE to tip for good service cuz I think it keeps the flow of good sevice going. So it has always bothered me that I have never tipped these people.
So I talked to the manager about donating a detail as a tip for the whole year. Throw all of the employees names in a hat and pick somebody. She was all for it and has actually shceduled me to do her black 2007 Charger after the holidays.
So we picked the name this morning and the guy (yeah.....not one of the hotties that takes care of me) that won was a nice kid, never really says much....just kinda hangs in the background. So when the manager and I told him that he had won the detail, and he finally figured out what a detail was, the guy shook my hand and said he couldn't believe that he actually won something. He told me how his parents are both elderly, in pretty bad physcial health and he spends most of his free time taking care of them and, in the process, ends up using his vehicle and it gets pretty messed up. The weekend comes and the last thing he wants to do is clean his car. He was noticeably holding back a lot more feelings than he was letting show so I told him that it was my pleasure and went back to talk to the manager.
She tells me that this guys older brother had stolen a bunch of money from the parents, stolen stuff from their house to sell for drugs and just generally jacked up their lives. She tells me how this kid is early everyday for work, never leaves if there's extra stuff to do and never logs in for the overtime. Just an all around nice kid that got saddled with a lot of responsibility and steps up to the challenge everyday!
So it will be my honor to take care of this kid when the time comes and will definetly post pics when I get it done.
Anyone else ever do anything like this? I know we, as detailers, get tips all the time but does anyone ever flip it and give details for good service rendered?
