FPII / NXT Paste on a Snaab 9-3

Did this car for my girlfriend. It came out of winter hibernation about a month ago in pretty nice shape (compared to the winter beaten vehicles). After a more in depth look, I noticed some haze on the hood from overspray (front bumper and top portion of passenger door repainted over winter). The body shop did a shoddy job and also left a ton of OP on the bumper. Anyways, my final processes:

Top

-Clean top with 303 Convertible Top Cleaner

-Protect top with 303 High Tech Fabric Guard

Body

-QEW

-PB Clay

-FPII via rotary and Meguiar's Polising Pad @ 1500 rpm

-NXT paste by hand

Rims/tires/wells

-Meguiar's Gold Glass Rim Cleaner and wheel brush on wheels

-Meguiar's NXT Tire Foam and Gold Class Tire Brush on tires/wells

-Meguiar's Spoke Brush for the insides of the rims

-Meguiar's Insane Tire shine on tires/wells

My favorite because it shows the condition compared to a Non-Autopian car (Corolla on the left).

I ran out of time, but next time will be another coat of NXT Paste as well as a full trim job, PB Wheel Sealant, and to polish/protect the windows. I did the entire interior today, but no pics.

To note, NXT paste spreads FOREVER and hazes up quickly. IE: I applied in 5 minutes and was able to remove right away. It left a pretty slick, wet looking finish, with added depth and reflections. Mosca says it best as a "balanced look". The Insane Tire shine isn't bad on low pro tires because it doesn't give a too 'mirrory' shine. Being an aerosol, you have to get any overspray off quickly, otherwise it takes some QD to do the job.

Enjoy folks :).

Awesome Sean!! This is the reason I work so hard to get to your level.

How did you like the Insane Tire shine spray? Is it a mess to clean up?

Got it. Should have kept reading. Thanks.

How does the shine compare to AA? I know diff rubber compounds give diff shine to dressings.

Much more shine than AA, but like I said, it gets to mirrorish on bigger sidewalled tires.

I've tried it on 3 brand tires, all low pro, with equal results.

Thanks. I have 285-50-R20's on my silverado. I think I will try it because AA is too natural on those tires. They are Goodyear GT-II.

Thanks agian and awesome work.

Beautiful job, Sean! The paint looks wet and reflective. :up

I have to agree about the paste version of NXT. Takes very little product and sets up very quickly compared to the liquid. Very easy to apply via PC too.

What do you think of the new Meguiars brushes? I have several and while I think they work well and seem to be solidly constructed, I wish they had one with a low profile head so you can get it between the tires and the fenderwell. I think it is a glaring omission from an otherwise excellent line of brushes.

As always, your work is top notch!

How do you wax in 5 minutes?

With the rotary, on the bumper for example - do you tape it off?

PS: Ialready have too much stuff in stock. I refuse to purchase every new wax :D

PPS: BEUTIFUL DETAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bow :bow :bow :bow

I need to find the Meg's Spoke brush, the local places around my area doesnt seem to carry the new line up. I guess I will have to check out the walmart this week for them.

Anyways, great detail, yours steps were simple yet the results yielded more than just a simple look! Your always raising the standard arent ya! ;)

I am in the same boat. Walmart doesn't have them either.around here.

PS: this week I may make it out to you.

Pep Boys in my area has most of the new Meguiar brushes but they don't have the new chenille pad. That sucker is incredibly soft!

Thanks Scott. I may make it to Pep Boys soon. (not 1 in my area)

Same here. Every Walmart and Pep Boys in my area is not carrying the new Megs brushes yet...:(

Awesome detail, Sean :xyxthumbs

For some reason I thought you got rid of the Saab after the issues you had with it.

Did you have an urge to secretly detail that Corolla ? :D

BlkSilverado: It's all up to you. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you take my notes into account. Also, if you think AA is too flat, then this is probably the dressing for you.

Scott: I'm right with you. Pretty much everything is top notch about the brushes except them getting into wheel wells. Oh well, it's not hard to throw an older chenille pad in the car for the wells.

Thomas: I didn't tape anything off. I used to tape everything, but I've become very nimble with the machine. Once the car is prepped well, it has never taken me long to apply an LSP :).

Mike: You know it ;).

kartoon: Liz is keeping it until she graduates (almost 1 year to the day). I think she has her eyes on the new S40. The Corolla needs some serious TLC. I always get nice comments from neighbors, but never any bites. I don't think all of the people in my complex have a top priority of a detailed vehicle. No biggie :D.

Looks awesome Sean!!!

Man, I really need to revisit the NXT paste. I could NOT get a thin, uniform layer with it. I ended up applying it so thick that it duested upon removal. I tried it a few times and gave up. Perhaps I will pull it off of the shelf this weekend and try again. :nixweiss
