Four Star UPP

Even after extensive shaking, my 4*UPP has small specks of material that do not break down during application. Although the specks do not appear to be causing any scratching, I'm still a bit uneasy about using it on my black truck.

Is this normal for this product?

I think I have also noticed the specks you're talking about. I have never noticed any marring caused by applying UPP though. I think they might be normal. You can pick them out if it really worries you. :)

There are way too many specks to pick out. With a dime sized portion to apply to the hood for example, there are probably 15-20 "specks".

My choices seem to be to try and filter out the specks from the entire bottle, don't use it anymore or don't worry about it.

No specks here, I have v.2 that smells like bubble gum. If you contact dwayne at premium auto care, I am sure that he will take care of it.

No specs in mines either.

I would either contact the supplier or maybe filter it through a coffee filter.

Two people have specs that settles it for me, I'll pass on the UPP. Out of all the sealants I used this year, and there's about 6 or 7 of them, I never heard anything like that. In fact after twenty years of polishing cars I've never heard of that. For twenty bucks a bottle I would expect better. Thanks for the post, this was one product I was going to try but this is too gheto for the likes of me. I likes my polishes spec free.

I think UPP is one of the best products i have, although i have not tried too many sealants.

I could sit and stare at my light blue car all day, it looks soo damn nice :)

LOL, it is really an outstanding product, but so are all the popular sealants.

If you dont want it, do you want to sell it?

Wow. I was just talking about one popping up here and there. Certainly not a consistent supply of them coming out. And I don't notice them in the product, I have just noticed tiny specks on the pad after applying it sometimes.

I have these specks too, its kind of like a milkshake or smashed up paste wax. They are soft and as far as i can tell it doesnt affect performance :nixweiss

I wouldn't write this product off so quickly. Whatever is going on here, is not a widespread issue.

Agreed. UPP is a fantastic product, and a few little dots will definitely not keep me from using it. I can't even say for sure that it isn't just some black dust from the Lake Michigan Carferry settling down on my car during the UPP application. That boat releases tons of black dust and crap into the air about a mile from my house.

Hey, I donâ€â„¢t mean to cause any controversy or bad mouth 4*. I notice the specks mostly when the product is applied, the specks are moved across the surface and leave a trail so to speak in the applied material. Iâ€â„¢m NOT trying to imply or state that the product is contaminated with sand or grit or anything else for that matter. The âہ“specksâ€Â are about the size of period on a size 12 font.

I bought the product from SMP in early December. Iâ€â„¢ll email Scott and if he thinks itâ€â„¢s OK, I think itâ€â„¢s OK. Iâ€â„¢ve had nothing but excellent service from SMP and 4* products.

Maybe someone replaced your UPP with liquified Certs®?

I never noticed anything in the sample I had but it was the 2nd generation version.

LOL. Maybe they're flavor crystals. Vanilla beans? Poppy seeds? Time for a poll, what are the specs in UPP?

Ram your not starting a controversy but you deserve an answer for your concern. All joking aside, I would hope that the answer is that is not OK and we will replace your product because specs don't belong in polish, especially synthetic polish. I have never seen anything like that in any synthetic sealant, sometimes in Nuba products you might get the occasional Nuba crystals from drying or other reasons but synthetics are very specific clearish liqueds. For example, I have never heard of specs in Zaino, SG, Wolfgang, NXT, or any other high grade sealant. If I had specs I would return the product regardless of what ANYBODY said and if they didn't exchange or refund my money I would not buy that product again no matter what product it was! The smallest piece of sand can cause swirls in CC, so whatever the specs are they are a potential problem. Even if they are soft now but it is some ingredient that is gathering, there is nothing saying those specs will remain soft. It sounds like the ingredients might not like each other, in other words they may not emulsify together correctly. Just because people like a product there's no reason to defend it when there's a problem. I wouldn't defend any product I liked if it had something wrong with the formulation. I also wouldn't hold it against the company if there was no damage and they accepted responsibilty for themselves and replaced the product. Sounds like a minor issue but it should still be addressed.
