Found my Zaino ZFX vs Souveran topper pics......

I believe it would be nearly impossible to tell the difference between a sealant (Zaino) and a carnuaba finish by a two dimensional picture. The subtle differences in depth, wetness and richness or lack of can not be captured in a picture of internet quality. In most cases the compression of information tends to improve reality and soft focus imperfections.

On that color BMW I believe a Zaino type gloss would be more desirable in order to enhance its presence. JMO

Before I give myself a day of work reading your guesses, I will come clean.

I agree that because these pictures were taken on different days, lighting was different. All pictures are original, unaltered except for resizing and cropping.

For the record, I don't believe these pictures do any justice in relation to seeing the results first hand....especially in the differece of the resulting look the 2 products gave.

Now for the moment you have all been waiting for........

In each picture, the top pic is the ZFX only, and the bottom pic is the souveran topper. In other words, pic #1 and #3 are ZFX, and #2 and #4 are souveran topped.

Hey Detailking,

So I guess by your post you liked the Souvern topper? I tried it after 3 coats of Z2 but I could see very, very little difference under sodium and floresent lighting. I have yet to look at in direct sunlight.I live just north of you and the way things look I may not see sunlight for a while!

Bruce

BTW Nice car!

I got the answer right! :D

I have the same car and my results with carnauba were very similar. Can you see that blueish tint in pics 2 and 4? That's what I got after topping Klasse with S100.

Your car looks great!:xyxthumbs

I'm have to try Zaino this spring!

Well I looked at my carbon black under sunlight. 1/2 is 3 coats z2 alone 1/2 is 3 coats z2 with souvenr topper. I can't see a difference. My wife loaned out both of my digitals so I vcan't post pics so for you guys, sorry.I'm going to complete the souvern on the rest of the car anyway. When it wears off I'll go back to z2 alone.

BTW, I also picked pictures 2 and 4. I wonder how many coats of Z2 Detailking has on.

Pics 2 & 4 are deeper and are thus Souveran topped? What is your definition of "deeper"? To me, they just look darker, especially in pictures 3 vs. 4. This is the exact effect I was getting back when trying a Souveran topper on my black car. Bruce, I'm surprised you can't detect a difference between your topped and untopped portions of your car.

In the first picture, the car's true 'titanium grey' color is maintained. In the second picture, the color almost seems to have changed to a blue-ish titanium color.

As always DK, great pics!!

Slightly off topic, but this looks like a good thread to ask this question...

I like to layer polymers over time (add a layer every 2 - 4 weeks), and have been hestitant to try different toppers, because I don't really want to have to start completely from scratch if I want to add more layers of polymer after having applied a topper. Is it possible remove carnuba, for the purpose of adding more polymer without removing all the polymer at the same time? Most of the polymers are very fussy about not being layered over carnuba.

There seems to be a lot of thread about adding topper, but I don't seem to be able to find anything about a "next step". Is this a case where you just keep adding topper, until you wish to start all over from scratch?:nixweiss

Sorry if I seem to be rambling.

If you add a wax topper you can either continue layering the topper or you can just wait 2-3 months and then continue adding layers of whatever polymer sealant you were using. After 2-3 months, whatever wax is remaining (if any) is not going to be a problem.

Some ppl have suggested doing a very light dawn wash to remove the wax and not your base polymer layers, but I'm not sure if I like this idea.

Dawn wash will not strip polymers, Terry at CMA thinks it's not powerful enough to strip waxes. Just to be on safe side and ensure proper polymer bonding I would do it.

My question is why not continue with the topper?:nixweiss

I coud not believe it either. I will post pictures ASAP.

I think the Z2 job was so good that the topper didn't help.

My question is why not continue with the topper?

1) Live in a northern snowbelt without a heated garage, so I need the layered polymer to make it through the winter for a minimum of 3 months to as long as 5 months. This year is beginning to look like 5 months.:(

2) While, I "like" to layer every 2-4 weeks, I have a very erratic schedule that doesn't always allow things to work out that way. With multiple cars, the layered polymer works well for peace of mind when I just can't get to it.

3) Maybe I'm wrong! I have only used Zaino and Blackfire. Once I try a topper, I may not be able to stop waxing?????:D

Thanks.
