Found a Good Filler Glaze

First, most of yall that know me know that I'm not a big fan of fillers; I rather prefer to permanently remove swirls and marring through proper polishing, but us professionals are not always paid enough to do so and hobbiest don't always have enough time...so there are times a good filler wax fits the bill. And we can't polish all the swirls out all the time.

It had been a while since I polished my metallic silver/gold landcruiser and some very slight washing lines were starting to appear, so I decided to try a product a guy I know gave me (more on this below)...Product-X by Blue Coral, touted as a "premium glaze, swirl remover." I'm guessing a gallon of this stuff is available for $20-$25. Anyways, I applied it as I would a sealant (by hand) and walla...most of the washing swirls were filled and "appeared" to be gone. Also, the surface was slick as if it had been waxed...I didn't wax over the top of it, as I want to see how long it will last "as is." I'm also gonna play with this stuff on a black Lexus I'm detailing later today. I'll be sure to report back any further findings, but I suspect this could be a good product to cover up swirls inbetween polishings.

Story of how I ended up with this stuff...basically, a detailer I know who works at a local car wash gave me a gallon of the stuff many months ago, telling me that I need to try this because it removed swirls so well. Well, knowing how they polish over at that car wash (as most car washes)...I know they don't polish good/long enough to actually REMOVE anything...which told me the fillers must be tricking him into thinking the swirls were gone.

It's pink, right? If so I have tried it and fills like no other. Doesn't the back say "fills and removes swirls" or something like that?

My Bro in law gave me a bottle about 4 years ago, loved it, great stuff. Extremely slick finish too. it was pink. I still have a drop left, saved the bottle in case they still made it so i'd remember. It's been so long I never even looked for it lately. I'd say it's a good final "just in case" step for when your in a hurry.- definitely fills the scratches...

Any leads on where it might be available? I saw an ebay listing for 42 usd and the seller shipped only to the USA but seemed like a regular seller.

Ryan,

Off topic I was reading a post you put up on the body shop forum. Sounds like you really know your stuff. I will have to contact you for some advice lol. Maby you should teach some of David B's detailing classes.

Keep up the good work!

Wow RAG - U'd be the last person I'd guess to use a product with filers!! Especially on your own car. :LOLOL

After it wears off, do a comparison against a product without fillers and post your results.

Sorry yall, I'm remodeling my new (old) house I just bought and have been really busy. I respond to the other posts below...

Yeah bud, you got it. Yes, it says fills and removes.

I didn't get a chance to try it on the black lexus I just did, but I did give the guy (a friend of mine from Northern California) a bottle of the stuff to try out.

I'm hesitant to apply via DA, as I'd imagine the abrasives aren't the best and I'd hate to leave any micromarring on a dark color...so I've only applied by hand so far. And I see no point in applying it via rotary, as I'd be afraid of it tricking me.

Yeah, the surface felt waxed which suprised me. And this is the first time I can say I actually noticed the fillers...most of the time I have never actually seen a difference with filler products.

Thanks. Well, I wish I knew PDR like you. Maybe someday I'll have to pay you to come train me...but I know it's more compolicated than a couple trainings. I'm going to a body shop training school for a couple weeks later this month.

You're right, I am the last guy - I prefer just to polish it out proper like. But like I said, it has its place (just as long as your aren't tricking customers or covering up buffer halograms).

Used it yesterday on a "brand new" black volvo that had buffer swirls thanks to the dealership...owner didn't want to pay for buffing so I tried this stuff and it worked amazingly well...the halograms disappeared completely (of course I told the owner they'd be back soon). This stuff could be dangerous in the hands of dealership and body shop hacks!

Yes, it is very dangerous! Because I am 19 and was in a pinch for a summer job, I worked at a dealership :wall , and they loved that pruduct. Just in the time I was there they wanted to use it on a repaired Caddy SRX, brand new Lucerne (black) that had deep swirls off the truck, and countless other halogramed vehicles, it makes me sick... But of course they all looked at me funny when I actually took out the rotary and fixed them, other than cover them. :hairpull

Where would I be able to buy some of this stuff locally or online? Can't find it online anywhere.

Blue Coral is made by EcoLabs which also makes Black Magic, Westleys and RainX. Apparantly they make much more too. It's a rather large company!

Anyway, I did some Googling, searching out various key words and found it! If you scroll down the page on the link, you'll see it. Maybe you can contact them to find a distributor. Hope this helps:

Product Xâ„¢ Fill-in Glaze

Designed to restore the original shine to all automotive finishes. As a fill-in glaze, it contains cleaners and polishing agents that work to remove or fill in surface scratches while enhancing the shine. This special polish works to eliminate swirl marks while creating a deep luster. Most effective if applied by a high speed buffer, but will also work with an orbital or by hand.

Sort of contradictory?! Fills scratches but removes swirls?
