I've been a compulsive collector of cars and car care products since the late fifties, have always detailed and maintained my own vehicles. But I'm definitely an amateur detailer, always looking for something better.
My current cars span the same the same years, ranging from mid-fifties original enamel finishes to the Carbon Steel Gray metallic of my Mk6 GTI, along with a few generations of clear coat finishes in between. Back in the fifties, the original two-stage Blue Coral Treatment was followed by the "new" cleaner-waxes like J-Wax and Simonize Vista. In the past decade, Menzerna and Blackfire have dominated my shelf. But a small black bottle of Meguiar's Competition Finish from the early seventies recently turned up in a dark corner.
I've been learning for over fifty years, definitely have lots more to learn here.
