Forever Black Trim Dye

I used Forever Black Trim Dye today on an 04 Escalade which had some MAJOR fading happening to the rear trim piece. I was not at all happy with the way it applied or the finish. It was very streaked and i could see all my start/stop points. Any tips?

haven't tried forever black stuff. maybe applying a second coat will even things out a bit. worse case get etr from valugard.

on that note, what is everyone using for trim? the stuff I had I tried on my own xterra and a week later it was covered in dust worse than the rest of the car!

Before the dye dries, try going over it lightly with a towel to even it out. Its a great long lasting product, but needs to be applied correctly.



Otherwise, try the GTechniq stuff.

am experimenting with gtechniq now. only been on about week and half so can't say anything about durability at this point. looking to try 3d's trim stuff Car Trim, Bumper, Rubber Molding Protectant/Restorer - Trim Care 16oz.

Was the Cadillac trim smooth or textured?



Some trim products don't do so well with smooth trim.

Forever Black is a much underrated product, but it could probably do with better application user notes. You need to use a foam pad along with the standard applicator. Use the standard applicator to get the product onto the piece of trim, but then use the foam applicator to even out what you have applied. It does dry quickly, so keep adding coats until you get the desired coverage. It is far better to apply it sparingly and then keep adding coats until you get the desired result. Quite often it pays to have a second shot the following day. The result though is worth it and you'll find it is very long lasting. You just need to be patient and reapply over what you have already done.

It was textured. It was also a very light gray-I'm actually wondering if it was every really black. I applied 3 coats within 5 minutes of each other. Used a foam pad on the final coat thinking it would even it all out and still looked like crap. Luckily the stuff comes off paint just fine with alcohol and a MF
