Ford Paint-ruby red

Hey all, I am thinking of getting a Ford with Ruby Red metallic. I think that's the name. It looks good in pictures, I have yet to see it in person. How is the Ford Paint in Red as far as durability, looks etc. long term? I am also looking at white which should be easier to care for.

I've seen that red--it is very good looking--deep red not fire engine red.   If you really want an easy to care for color I'd go for metallic silver--hides dirt and scratches very well.

The color has basically nothing to do with durability. The color is the base coat under the "clear coat'. The clear coat is what gives the gloss and protection. Durability of the clear is what is important, and most Ford assembly plants in 2012, 2013 and into 2014 use a PPG paint system.

Ron, I remember that some reds tend to turn white or oxidize. That's what I was thinking of. I guess it's a thing of the past. Thanks

Last summer I was looking at a Mustang in Ruby Red. It was a color upgrade and if I remember correctly, I think an extra $1,000-$1,500. I didn't buy the mustang, but ended up buying something else. Anyway, the Ruby Red is an amazing looking color, especially in the sunlight!

You are thinking about a single stage red. if a clear coated red starts to exhibit that sort of discoloring, it's not the "red pigmented base coat", but the clearcoat is failing.  One of my vehicles is a bright, bright red, but it is clear coated or I would not have painted it red.

Street5927- it's a $350 option or so..

How is the color as far as matching goes, if it ever needs bodywork?

Keep in mind that Ruby Red is a 3 stage color with a tinted clear coat. Matching can be difficult, but that is normally what blending it for. Great looking color btw!

I plan to look at a car this week in Ruby Red, Thanks for the reply's everyone. The blending scares me a little, since most of my cars have been hit by someone while I have owned them. Maybe the red will show up better !

I picked up my new Ford with Ruby Red tinted clear coat. It looks great ! Thanks for the replys everyone.

The color looks very nice, it does show dirt a little more than I had thought it would. My last car was lighter than this, I guess I am used to a lower maintenance color. :)

One great thing about tinted clear coat...when you polish it your pad in this case turns red...which is a great teaching aid...you can actually see what you're removing...and the need to clean your pads often. Everyone should learn polishing on a tinted clear coat.

I have a question you guys may be able to answer. I was looking at touch up paint for the Ruby Red tinted clear coat. Code RR.  Some places mention a base coat and a mid coat, others only mention a single tube of paint. What do I need? I assume I would need a clear on either one ? Who have the best touch up paint available, The Dealer, other? I see Dupli-color does not have it for 2014. Thanks.

I gave it a claying and applied some Surf City Nano Seal a few weeks ago. The other day I applied their Barrier Wax as a topper, it looks great !  I did get some touch up at the dealer and they said it did not need a clear coat, But on a Ford chart it mentioned one ? Hopefully I don't need it too often.
