For those of you who don't believe Vanilla Moose fills swirls...

I think of VM as a *very* high-grade "cleaner wax", in the same category as 1Z's WaxPolish Soft and MP. "Cleaner wax" is sorta a :nono around here, but still, that's how I use it.



I've tried P21s GEPC both before and after VM (on single stage lacquer) and I didn't see any advantage over just using VM by itself.
 
VM is a glaze with very minor abrasives and some protective qualities. It does have some cleaning ability, but I would stop short of calling it a cleaner wax.



I usually use it after swirl removal (Poorboy's SSR line or DACP) and then top it with a wax or sealant. It does give a nice wet look and great slickness. Toppers glide on with ease making it easier to get those precious thin coats.
 
Well, I honestly had no idea it would remove swirls like that. The only other time I have used it (on my car) was after polishing with 1Z PP, so 95% of the swirls were gone anyways. So, I wanted to start with a clean surface before experimenting.



I'm going to try this on the 1940 Buick with VERY heavily swirled single stage paint. I'll keep you guys posted. :)

Not to thread hi-jack.. Why are cleaner waxes a "no-no" around here?

Not really a no-no, but you get better results (assuming quality products) with a two step procedure (separate polish and wax) than with a one step cleaner wax.
 
I've used VM at times too, but it does mask micro-marring as it has some fillers in it (china clay) as far as I can tell. Most glazes have some type of filler as it's the nature of a glaze.



Only way to tell is after using it, mist area with alcohol/water mix or "Prepsol" and see what you have.



I used it on a F1 360, and the owner wanted "no masking of swirls or micro-marring" which he was willing to pay. I used the VM, but it did mask, so I had to switch gears and keep stepping down in polish. It was a real PITA, but he was very happy. At least I got my chance to drive it around the back roads in Greenwich as he took my SC430 for a spin... too bad we had to exchange back.. DAMN IT! Man that was fun:D



Anyway, I still use VM every so often as it does impart a nice clean finish and after a coat of CMW it just gets better. CMW is so easy it should be illegal!

I'd think AIO would remove VM therefore making that step unnecessary (unless you were using VM as an extremely light polish instead of a glaze.)
 
Yes, AIO will remove VM and just about anything prior that was on a finish due to it's cleaning agents.

I used that combo on a brand new BMW Z4 last fall if I remember right. I used the VM to polish the paint then AIO to further clean the paint and prep the surface for SG. Turned out pretty good.

Scottwax…..that BMW sure did turn out well! Sounds like VM/AIO/SG is not a "standard" combo in your arsenal, though, if you're reaching back to the fall for the e.g.….



Anyway, it looks like the BMW's paint colour is in the same neighbourhood as my Mz3's Titanium Gray, so that makes me lean even more to the VM/AIO/SG combo.



I guess it's a no-no to use them in this order AIO/VM/SG, because the SG won't bond as well -- is that right?



The other polish I was considering was 1Z's Metallic polish -- my paint is loaded with metal flakes of differing colours. What would you guys use as a polish?



The stork arrives with the twins next week, so the only issues are the polish and the sequence. I guess it's questionable whether I even need anything other than the twins, since the paint is new and in excellent condition. I bought the car new 2 months ago, clayed it, SEPC & s100'd it the first month, and just recently redid the SEPC/S100.

On my metallic cars, I like the 1Z polishes better than anything else I've tried (and that's saying something). FWIW, and this is all just personal preference, the Klasse look doesn't do it for me on paint that has an "interesting" metallic element to it. The 1Z look is much more special in *my* opinion. Especially when topped with a good sealant (such as 4-Star's UPP).



Besides the MP, you might consider the WaxPolish Soft.

You are correct. SG would have bonding issues if you applied it on top of VM. I think AIO/SG would be more than sufficent on that metallic paint. One option I like a lot is VM topped by EX-P. The clear nature of it allows the metal flake to really show through.
