Foam wax pads?

Well after doing my first Zaino a couple weeks back, my foam wax pads had a little dirt color to them.. and as soon as noticed I'd flip the pad over so I wasn't rubbing dirt on the car. After washing them I still have dirt in them, or atleast dirt coloration, after a handwash and two runs through a machine.

Now, it's not a big deal, the pads are cheap enough. I'll just toss them to feel safe. But I cannot seem to find a good place to get pads from (I havn't looked locally yet). CMA wants 2.95 for 3 pads, that's a buck a pop! Meanwhile I can get 12 Meguiar pads off their page for 5.88 but then I tack on shipping.

So that's my question, where do you all pick up your foam wax pads and what brand are they and what's a reasonable price to pay.

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

P.S I was planning to order some stuff from CMA but the pad prices are a little out there.. I'll have to hold off until I need a bunch more supplies.

The WalMart stores here have the two pack of Meguiars foam pads for $1.99. K-mart has two blue foam pads for $1.47.

...discolor you pad. Be it foam, microfiber or terry. If the pad is still soft like new it will be okay. If you use ZFX and the pad hardens, get a new pad. If in doubt use a new pad. A small price to pay to avoid self-induced marring. Quality pads can be found at many places locally ( AutoZone, PepBoys, Wallmart, Sears, etc.):wavey

I'm not sure there's much difference between pad brands, but I've had very good luck hand washing dirt out of my Meguiar's pads with dish soap. It sometimes takes a bit of scraping/massaging to get them 100% clean, but all I have still look new.

I wonder if maybe the Zaino is somehow holding in the dirt? :nixweiss

You kinda have to shop around for these pads. If there are boating stores nearby sometimes they have these with their Megs marine stuff. I figure $1 US each is good, and I can get them for less than this each.

EDIT: I guess blkZ28Conv answered that! :p

I don't have much Z color to them, it's more like dirt. Like I was applying product and picked up some dirt. It wasn't a TON of dirt.. but anyway as soon as I noticed I'd flip the pad over so I didn't scratch up the paint...(but when I washed them the dirt either stayed or something?) I just don't have a lot of auto shops around here without going into Austin. I'll try the autozone or the new place Advance Auto parts that just opened up down the road.

Mindflux, your statement concerns me. Zaino polishes (Z2 and Z5) have zero abrasives. Did the discoloration appear during the Z1 step? If so that is okay. If the non-Zaino discoloration occurred during the application of Z2/Z5 this is troublesome with possibly two causes: 1/ poorly washed and rinsed vehicle, 2/ large amount of sediment in your water source. #1 can be rectified by improving your washing and rinsing technique. #2 can be treated by pre-QD'ing with Z6 to remove this residue prior to layering Zaino. This will not only improve the appearance and functioning of your pads but also alleviate some micro-marring that you are unable to detect easily on a light colored vehicle.:wavey

It was during the Z2 phase. No worries tho, we're not talking about a black foam pad. We're talking about a few specs of dirt. It certainly wasn't filthy.
