Foam guns are waaaaay too much fun!

The video below is Chemical Guy's Citrus Wash & Gloss. I got way heavy handed when I was pouring it into the bottle. This was 5 ounces (waaaaaay too much) to 27 ounces of water. Foam gun was set at max ratio (sucks as fast as it can from the bottle). It was very hard to rinse off. After the video was taken, I had about 1 inch of stuff left in the foamer bottle. I topped it off with water to try and get the dilution where it should be. My camerawoman left, so I have no video of it. It performed about like it should be, however the CW&G does not foam nearly as well as the Zaino wash. Note that at high concentrations, CG's says this stuff is a great paintwork prep cleanser, ie, it'll take your LSP off mucho pronto.

One thing I wasn't expecting was the water beading. After all the washing my car has taken over the last few days (including the highly concentrated CW&G, which removes LSP), my car has zero Z2 left on it. Imagine my surprise when, after the final rinse, I was left with a well-beaded layer of water. Drying with a WW towel left me zero spots, or hard water smears ( i usually get hard water smears even after using a WW, which i then have to use QD to get rid of). When CG's says "no more water spots", they mean it. Finish looks like glass.

Mixed in with a good foaming cleaner (like the Zaino), this stuff is gonna rock.

CG's CW&G Pros:

Great lubricity

Cleans like crazy

No water spots

Glass finish

Cons:

Hardly any foam at normal concentrations (I think. Need to try it again)

Hard to rinse off

Gotta be careful to get the dilution right to prevent LSP loss

I am going to try this stuff again using a bit more accurate dilution to see if I can't get some better foam with it.

Anyway, enough of my babbling... here's the video:

DANG mountains of suds!!!! You are right, way too many and if it takes of LSP....... The neighbors must think your crazy with all this washing.

How have OTC soaps worked? Do you think you will have to change the dilutions for each brand? Or would high foam on one brand work as well as a low foam with another due to dilution. In other words would a 1/2" foam up work just as good as 1" of another.

Sound like you need to do some more testing:rofl

I've only tried three soaps so far: Meguairs Deep Crystal (pffft.. don't waste your time), Zaino Z7 (very good stuff), and the CG"s CW&G. Guess I should probably go get some OTC soaps. As for dilutions, yeah, it's different for each one I've tested so far. I've gone through an entire bottle of Z7, one gallon of the Meguairs, and about 5 ounces of the CW&G trying to get the dilutions figured out.

In the vidoe above, my car was so clean, that the foam wouldn't stick very well, it was just falling off the car.

So far, I'm leaning toward using Z7 and CW&G in the same bottle. The Z7 has much, much, MUCH better lubricity and foam, while the CW&G cleans better, leaves no water spots, and leaves the most unbelievable finish I've seen from washing a car. Think better than Z8 quality. I normally do a Z8 wipedown after washing to get rid of the hard water smears and improve the shine. Not today; I don't want the Z8 dulling the finish!

My Boars Hair Brush came today, and the water softening filters should get here tomorrow.... Hmmmmm.. my wife's Sequoia is looking a bit dirty...

Certifiable, I'm sure. :)

that stuff looks thicker than shaving cream! I think for an OTC soap, you should try meguiars NXT generation and put up a vid of that.

You got it. I'll see if I can find some while I'm out today.

Hey Brandt,

If I remember I will bring down some Meg gold to try out, we'll even use my car! I also have some Optimum No Rise that we could mix with Megs and other to see how that might effect the suds and cleaning.

I'm thinking that some of the OTC soaps might work much better with this gun and be cheaper than the botique stuff.

That sounds great, Greg! Try and get down here as early as you can, cause I just ordered Zymol's Vintage (have I mentioned what a wonderful wife I have?) and HD-Cleanse. Get down here early enough, and we'll do the full nine yards on your car. :)

Edit: None of the stores around here carry the NXT wash. :/

Wow suprebee let a brotha know your secret! I have been wanting vintage for months!

I think it has to do with the post-birth hormones... I could ask her for a new car right now and she'd say yes. :) It's kinda like she has post partum depression in reverse.

Yeah, I've been dying to try out the high end Zymol stuff, too. I finally convinced myself that never having to pay for an LSP again was worth the initial outlay of cash. I just hope it really is worth it, cause I'm stuck with the stuff for life; I promised her I wouldn't ever buy any waxes/sealants again.

lol i have the zymol ital and concours and I like it but I am always trying new stuff so that deal would not work.

But good for you buddy and congrats on the little one!

There goes another $80 plus shipping. Make a nice complement to my Shark 13HP Honda powered pressure washer :)

Woot! You're gonna have a blast :) 13hp???? Daaaaang, that's some serious horse power. Tim Allen would be proud of you. : P

Thanks, Diesel! :hifive:

Honestly the foam gun was one of the best purchases I ever made. Its SO easy to wash my chrome wheels now without any chemicals. Just foam them up, and wash them with a dedicated sheepskin.

hmmmm.. good idea.

I got a quick question. Does the power of the washer influence the foam thickness? Do I need to have a high-PSI washer to get your results? I was htinking about getting an electric washer, 1500-2000 PSI but might as well go to gas powered if it does make a difference.
