Foam Gun? What? Are you kidding?

I purchased the Gilmore Quart sized Muti-Ratio foam gun. The same darn gun I've seen in many pictures relating to this new Foam gun craze.

I did not purchase it through any of the site's sponsor's; so don't assume it.

Furthermore, I have nothing but praise for this sites sponsor's, and will continue to do business with all of them.

I purchased my gun locally through my companies commercial supplier. Yes I support my local distributors too, just as many others here do.

This is not about where it came from, who sold it, etc.

Frankly, that's irrelevant.

My review was about the product and it's performance.

THATS IT!

This will be my last post on this thread. Frankly, the attitudes of a few are p*ssing me off at the moment. Combine that with 14 hour shifts, I do not have time to waste further repeating myself.

Regardless of my initial thoughts on this product, I did purchase it. Use it. And provide my observations.

My observations are contrary to the rest of the bandwagon, therefore they are attacked.

I gave the product a fair chance, and it severely dissapointed me.

Oh yeah, but I'm "attacking" it, and went about it with skepticism.

If I honestly wanted the darn thing to fail, I would not have bothered to waste my time or money buying it.

Get over it.

I thought your review was very insightful. Detailcity, we have to take the good with the bad in order to be objective. There is definitely no reason to take anything personal or attack anyone on here. When it all comes down to it, we are just washing cars here! :surrender I hope this post does not keep people from posting their negative reviews. When you have success with a product, post it. When you do not have success with a product, post it. There are many vendors that watch the forums here and bringing problems out to the community will keep them "on their toes".

Once again, good review.

I think you may perceive being "attacked" by a couple posters because of the way you handled your self in the intial post, culminating in referring to a product that MANY find to be very beneficial to the wash process as a "...waste of money, overhyped, worthless pile of junk."

To the contrary, it is far from that. An overwhelming majority of folks who actually use the product (not the non using, nay saying peanut gallery) would agree. Nobody is saying it is the end all, be all, but it definately helps reduce wash induced marring in conjunction with the 2 bucket method (that's how I use it).

When you talk like that, people respond in similar fashion. There were a number of ways to express your poor experience or review so we as a community could help you out. In the end, if it still didn't work out, you could use it for other uses like an APC pre-soak for engine cleaning or something. Or, you could sell it to someone here.

Personally, when someone reviews something in such a pejorative fashion, I tend to ingnore the merit of the review. But I can understand your frustration and need to vent because of the polishing you had to do as a result.

It sucks you had a crap experience and equally sucky that you squashed it with your car. It's unfortunate we couldn't help you with it like we do daily for DC members with buffer techniques, pad / product recommendations, etc...

I'll have to second that and FWIW I loaned my neighbor my hose, foam gun, QDs, and shut off valve, the whole set up, along with some mitts and upon setting it up and turning it on, he absolutely loves the thing. It kind of redefined washing a car as fun for him. I'm glad I watched him like a hawk because I have a feeling he might not have returned it.

First off the starter of this thread should have refered to this process before posting his review.http://www.detailcity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7381&highlight=Review+form
If this had been done prior to posting a lot of questions would have been answsered in the review.

There is nothing wrong with posting negative reviews. If you do not like something.... state it!

What I think is wrong is not answering questions that are brought up from the review. Wether the review is positive or negative.

Read other threads with reviews. Questions are asked all the time.

It's a shame the foam gun was damaged.

It would have been good to nail down potential problem areas:

- Hard water
- Defective gun
- Improper mix ratio
- Etc..

If we had a chance to dial in the above items, and it still didn't meet expectations, then I'd have a better understanding of this review/experience vs. what I've seen from my own use.

Good post...user error could never be considered here:whistling: that is what I find disturbing in negative reviews. A bunch of people use a product or a tool and get good results , understanding that it is new to them and they must adjust to the new tool or product and try it out a few different ways and then come back to the boards and ask questions about their use if they don't get desired results, yet others try a tool or product once and called the tool or product defective or crap. It is as bad as people using a swirl remover or porter cable one time or pass and not seeing a perfect finish on a 10 year old neglected finish. DC is here to ask those questions and do "RESEARCH" in the archives, not to :surrender when things do not work out immediately. :dcrules

I'm still not getting good results from my gilmour foam gun

would someone place photos of this thick foam that everyone is talking about.

i've tried several carwashes and have only gotten soap suds at all of the settings

thanks

This thread should be closed down, i think. Everything has been covered but yet the peanut gallary is still going at it. You people don't seem to like his post, or his reasons behind it. The man tried it not once but many times with different soap, gave his opinion, answered all the questions that are relevant. What more do you want?????

I've got a question about these foam guns. I am thinking of getting one, but was wondering if water pressure makes a difference in performance. The water pressure for my outdoor faucets are not as strong as I would like. Any comments?

I don't see where anyone answered your question so I'll try.

The instructions that came with my SG gun states a minimum pressure that is required. I don't remember what that is and am not at home so I can't look it up. However, we have an 66 YO house with original plumbing. We have pretty weak pressure. I don't know what it is at our front faucet but it wouldn't surprise me if it fails to meet the instruction's minimum. I turn it up all the way and am satisfied with the results.

looks like max at auto geek is aware of the situation.
I can't wait to try his new High Foaming shampoo formulation!!!

I've found the using a shutoff valve helps boost the pressure a little because the water is flowing from a larger pipe (your hose) through a smaller one (the round valve inside the shut off). This might help too.

Not trying to argue, but...
The smaller the pipe diameter, the lower the pressure. However, the velocity of the water moving through the small pipe will be greater.

I'm sure we all still understood what mgm2003 was trying to convey without me getting all geeky scientific here. :)

I believe the recommended water pressure is 40-60PSI

Also like i said inb my previous post I think there may be a bit of confusion as to what is expected of the Foamgun. Maybe it should be called a SUDSGUN!!
So people do not expect to much from it.

Richard

Gilmore recomends 40-60 psi water pressure for best operation. A smaller hole does not increase you pressure, it just increases the velocity. Pressure remains the same regardless of the size of the opening that the liquid is going through.

Thanks for the replies, know I just need to figure out how to measure the pressure of my faucets. My house was built in 1964 if that makes a difference.
