Foam Gun test with various shampoos

I dont know how you get away with such little soap, I used about 6 -7ozs of CGS super suds and it barely lasted the length of the wash

depends on the size of the car, i know america's car are on the whole much bigger, but the foam gun used was attached to my pressure washer and not a hose foam gun.

Ahhhh I didnt read that. Man I wish I could hook my foamer up to the pressure washer. 1750psi foam would rock!

What do you guys recommend for:

1) A good wash that doesn't remove anything? I was thinking of Duragloss wash for an OTC product after reading reviews on it.

2) A wash that would remove or at least help to remove protection/wax etc if I were stripping down to start over? This I'm not sure about?

Surfer- People *do* like the DuraGlos for an OTC shampoo with the foamgun, haven't tried it myself though (Griot's for me).

I somehow just don't like the idea of using a strong cleaner in the foamgun to strip/compromise wax. Remember that it'll do the same "super cleaning" on everything else it touches too, like your rubber trim. Probably not a big deal but I'd rather just wash with a *really* strong mix of regular shampoo and then use something specific (like rubbing alcohol or a product like Removes All from TOL) to compromise the wax. Just not enough control over the foamgun and where its output goes for anything other than a strong shampoo mix (just IMO of course).

*bump* for an interesting thread, that some may have not seen...

I appreciate that. I don't know how I missed it and it is indeed an interesting thread :bigups

How has no one reviewed the "DP Extreme Foam" yet??

When I got my foam gun some time ago, I tried TONS of different soaps in my foam gun. Most of the ones that you have shown in your reviews. I tried all the OTC products, and some specialty ones as well. NOTHING came close to the amount of foam and lubrication produced by the DP Xtreme Foam.

I'll have to take some pics of the foam produced by this. I liked it so much I ended up buying a 128 oz jug of the stuff. IMO DP Xtreme Foam is the ONLY way to go for foam gun concentrate. If you try it I think you'll agree.

JiggleRacing- Welcome to Autopia!

That sprayer won't work for this; it has the non-foaming nozzle that comes as an accessory for the foamgun. Doesn't work well for detailing. You need the aeration provided by the foaming nozzle for it to really do its thing.

But if it'll accept the foaming nozzle it might be worth considering. Wonder if Gilmour will sell the foamer separately...hmmm bet there's some way to get one from 'em.

Thanks for the welcome. I have surfed this site for maybe a year and never signed up or posted. I got a chuckle out of the foamer on the power washer so I just had to post a pick of the opposite extreme....a cheepo sprayer from Home Depot :LOLOL

anyway, maybe I will post again in a year or so. :bolt

Has anyone tried NXT soap with a foam gun? I am going to be ordering one, but want to see if I need to get some shampoo also.

I've got the karcher and will get the foam wand this weekend. Is this combo adequate for quick washes in the winter when it's too cold for a hand wash?

hey sorry i never got back, yeah this is fine for winter washes, I am getting some new shampoo by the weekend so I will try and show you guys in a similar format look out for the likes of Chemical guys and the UK Snowfoam !

JJs Shine Guide

Wash Technique

(Pre Soak Method)

Well this is a wee bit different to my normal Saturdays of lying in bed! I tested my Gilmour and my Karcher foam lance. This way there can be a more direct comparison of each foam production method.

Each soap is diluted to the appropriate rate for the Gilmour and Karcher using JJs Method.. The car is clean to start with so that all things are equal and the foam is applied to the same clean surface. I have based the cleaning power on the dwell time of the foam; the longer the foam is present the longer it will be able to loosen dirt, simple! Lol

Other factors are the coverage which is basically how well the foam covers the car, the cleaning ability the longer it lasts the longer the foam has to work and finally the foam left if its still there after 5 minutes then it means you could cut the ratio or leave it to sit for longer for max cleaning ability.

The Gilmour is set to 1:10

The Karcher is set to 1:128

What I have also done is enter the values into excel so that you can find out which produces the most foam, which is the most cost efficient, which dwells the longest etc.

Gilmour conclusion

So in conclusion the foamiest product was : maxi suds

The product which dwelled the longest was : maxi suds

The product which cleaned the best was : hyper wash, maxi suds or 1z

The least amount of solution was : hyper wash

The most amount was : 1z monthly

JJ- Interesting results, but to be honest it's so different from how I use the Gilmour that I don't know what to make of it  Does the long dwell time compromise your LSP much?

Crazy foam! So PowerWashers & Air powered foamers aren't really that good? Man soap processes change alot with foam guns.
