the problems with the Flex (the backing plate) is such a small percentage when you take in consideration how many thousands they have sold. though one could understand some people's concern that a machine/tool of that cost shoudn't have any problems nor have to do anything to it as far as pre-maintanance goes, better safe than sorry from the start/get go...
