Is the new Flex 3401 VRG equal to or better than a DA Polisher?

Also, is the Flex 3401 VRG better than or equal to a Rotary?

Answer 1: Better than PC in that it has longer strokes than "jiggle".

Answer 2: No, a rotary is in it's own league. Easier to correct paint and burn paint if not careful.

If you're not comfortable with a rotary, this may be your best bet until you get more time with a rotary polisher.

The Flex is a good machine with much better corrective abilities than a PC. For the average guy with a car in decent shape it will be sufficient.

good to know... i have only ever used a pc were i have never been worried about it. I will have to be careful then i guess when it arrives!!

you will see once you try it that it is alot more powerfull than a pc. It grabs more aswell, but it is not hard to use. Just be more carefull around body lines and stuff like that because it could damage the paint depending on how you use it and what pad you are using. :buffing:

I just bought one of these things. (Haven't used it yet.) How is the vibration compared to the PC? After a few hours with the PC, my hands would be killing me!

It's very different and *IMO* better. But the Flex 3401 has more, uhm..."recoil", you have to wrestle with it a little and some people do hate that. Hope it's not an issue for you (it's not for me).

will the flex burn thru paint? i know the pc wont, and i know rotary can, and flex is inbetween.

Burn through, or cut through?

Don't press really hard and you won't burn paint. I try to *NOT* press so hard that the backing plate rubs against the felt ring so I've never come close to burning paint. Heh heh, you might take off too much paint (i.e., cut through or overthin it..it's not just about going *through* the clear by a long shot!) but you really should't *burn* it...can't really imagine that myself.

Hey, I've damaged paint with a PC (4" green cyclo pad, 3M 05933), looked/felt/smelled *just* like a rotary burn too... but I've never done it with the Flex, and I've done some pretty aggressive correction with the latter. Keep thinking, don't really lean on it, and you shouldn't have any big "oops!".
