I just got my 3401 today and man what a machine! not even similar to the PC...

Question 1: With the 3401 do you polish the same as the PC? spread at low speed and then hammer it home on 5-6?

Question 2: I got the optimum line aswell, Optimum Polish, Optimum Compound and Hyper Compound (and ONR!) I was trying it out on a BEAT 95 sunfire.... black of course! I used a LC orange and hyper compound and after 3 5 minute passes there was still swirls everywhere! thinking to myself "must be under the clear" so i move to Optimum compound on a white pad and BOOM they are gone... i have never used anything other than SIP/106ff with my old PC and never experenced any kind of marring before. Was it marring from the Hyper compound? or just luck that the compound/white pad worked perfect?

Im glad i made the jump to a 3401, i think it will drasticly cut down on time compaired to my PC with 4" pads! Also glad i made the jump to Optimum products... i got the entire line for the price of 1 bottle of SIP!

I've only used the original OHC that really had no grit in it. Sounds like you might have gotten hazing from the OHC and the orange pad.

Sounds like you were getting swirls from the OHC and orange pad. I haven't used that combination, but compounds do that. If you've only used SIP to this point, I'm not surprised that it's new to you. FWIW, I've found you can get a lot more cut out of a given polish on the Flex than the PC. SIP is one of my favorites.

I assume the Flex and PC are going to be the same techniques. Spread at a slow speed and work up to speed 5

I use Optimum Polishes and theydo have a longer working time than Menzerna. It sounds like you just did some marring with the orange pad.

You did induce some marring with the OHC combo. The OHC is a rather heavy/strong compound that will need following up. I tackled one of our cars also with the OHC, white and or orange LC pad with my UDM, also resulted in marring. I haven't gotten a chance to go over them with my Makita, white pad and the OP to bring it back to snuff. Where to find the time ( and weather)

On a side note. As a newb, I did not initially notice this marring until after some time. I applied some of the CG's M-Seal over the car, and it completely filled in all of the micro-marring from the OHC application and looked like a mirror. So from my little experience, M-Seal does provide some filling (glaze like) results...
