FK425, why don't I get it?

Another factor may be you already own it, so deep in your mind you need it to feel great to justify your purchase..

The funny thing about my love of FK425 is that I simply wasn't interested in trying it. When I did finally order some, I was all prepared to post about how it wasn't anything special! At least I was able to say the anti-static doesn't work for me, but I woulda bet the farm I was gonna say I preferred the stuff I already had. For some things I still prefer FK146, and that stuff never gets any attention.

Heh heh, the QD I *wanted* to justify is M34, but these days I only use that stuff to wipe off pads, buff off polish residue, and clean antiquey things around the house.

It's fascinating how the psychology of consumers plays a role in opinions, and therefore, choice of product.

Even though many really like FK425, I wonder what their response would be if FK took a shot and released another QD marketed as everything 425 is but better and what the reactions of loyal 425 and non 425 users would be to using it.

You know, I was all set to call this one an issue of the mind, but it seems to me that most of us agree on the virtues of FK425, but some of us want those attributes in a QD and others do not. In all the replies here, no one has come out and said FK425 looks great. Most people said they liked the slickness and the fact that it didn't streak. Those are two attributes which I don't value as much as looks. I love drippy wet QD's. If I don't get a drastic change in appearance, I feel let down by a QD, and that is why I don't really like FK425.

That old 4 Star UGE really seemed to fit that bill and everything else all us have mentioned wanting for me,but, like anything else, someone could easily report different findings when they use it. I think there's always room for toss -up.

The book "Predictably Irrational" is an interesting read.

Oh, OK...I like how FK425 looks on certain paints wearing certain LSPs :D

Really, I do (but yeah, note all those qualifiers). I'm usually not a "shallow, shiny. etc." kind of guy, but I do like it for some applications. The beater-Tahoe (I do mean "beater" but at least there are no flaws that could be safely removed ;) ) is wearing Fk1000P over ZAIO, and I *LIKE* how it looks after a FK425 wipedown. I liked how it looked on the (KSGed) silver MPV too.

The Yukon (Carbon Metallic, also wearing FK1000P, which was a questionable choice for that paint) looked a bit better with FK146. Gee, am I the only person who uses that stuff?!?

Loved using 425 when drying a vehicle after a wash. No streaking, high slickness, and a bright look. I liked it better than OID (not as slick as long) and much better than Quuckshine (streaky). I have to admit that I felt that OID may have been a better cleaner, but I don't normally use a QD for cleaning.

After my gallon ran out, I was ready to buy more, but decided to try something new and went with Ultima Waterless Wash. Like 425 on steroids. Better, and longer lasting slickness, zero streaking, and cleans very well. Heck, it even brightens up the textured plastics on my Honda Fit and has a more wet look on silver.

I will keep an eye on that one! Looks like it comes in a concentrate that will make enough product for a LONG time!

How're the 3D/HD products relative to FK425 (in the context of post-wash use)?

More shine, less slickness. Similar amped up looks to NXT. Same cleaning power. Not sure on the streaking issues.

Just mix according to the instructions. I tried a slightly stronger mixture and got some minor streaking on glass.

The 2 QD-type products I have tried so far are 1Z spray wax and FK425. I have just received DG951 to try next. Z8 will be the next one further down the line (most probably in 2012).

I say QD type because in effect one could argue that some (most?) of them are more quick waxes / shine boosters than QDs.

As I do not do QD cleaning sessions or use QD to combat bird bombs or other impurities, I have only 2 performance criteria for my 'QD'. Ease of use and shine enhancement.

On both accounts I have prefered FK425 to 1Z. 425 gives for *me* a more visibly-hot-liquidy shine than 1Z. Also it spreads easier (less viscous) than 1Z. Attention for me is needed not to let it remain/dry as it streaks and is difficult to remove (I apply too much perhaps?). Application has taken place on top of carnauba waxes for both FK and 1Z.

So FK425 is for me the best out of the whole 2 products I have tried. If I remember I will update this mega comparison after using DG951. :).

I had some pretty awful streaking using 3D as a drying agent. It was on a black car where everything shows, but it was so bad that I actually re-washed the car to get rid of it. I've since cut 3D final touch 50:50 with water, and had better (not great) results as far as streaking. I'm not terribly upset about it -I think I got a gallon for $15 shipped or something ridiculous, but I've pretty much demoted it to door jams.

I bought and now use FK425 based upon the reviews from other users. Clearly, FK425 is one of the most popular QDs in use today (a large and vocal following). I apply it to my car about twice a week. I am happy with the results. I've also used Blackfire and CC Hybrid V7. In all honesty I probably could not tell the difference between them. They all seem to shine up the paint leaving a slick feeling that really doesn't last all that long ( I park my car outside). Once I go through the gallon of FK425, I may try a another brand for fun. But, if someone were to ask me to recommend a QD, I would say FK425. You will not be disappointed.

Yeah, the BF and UPP are both OK IMO, buying pricey little bottles of 'em made the gallon of FK425 seem affordable by comparison.

What about FK146...*anybody* using it?!?

Not yet Acc. It is in my 'probably great products, but not famous enough" list to try together with CG vertua bond 408, Menz top inspection and Megs no.7 glaze.

Unless you're dealing with a vehicle that has old-tech single stage paint, I'd skip that M07.

Used DG today for the first time. On a dry just washed car.

Similar visual results to FK425. Would call it a tie.

Texture and smell wise DG is very similar to 1Z, not watery as 425.

Where FK for *me* is losing points compared to DG is ease of spread and workability. FK has been streaking on occasion (might be the heat in Greece) whereas DG spread and buffed totally effortlessly.

So for now 1) DG, a close 2) FK and 3) 1Z spray wax.
