FK1 Decontamination Wash Reviewed

Just One More Coat
Over the weekend I had the chance to use the Finish Kare FK1 product that I ordered for my black BMW.....The site was very informative about how to use the product and the do's and dont's. I ordered it threw Pay Pal and was sent a email confirming the shipment the next day, it arrived Fed X ground in 3 days this is there standard shipping method.

I got the smallest decontamination wash kit which is 3 bottles of solution..which came with a laminating instruction chart very easy to understand

1) Prep and surface contamination removal solution
2) Sub Surface Contamination removal solution
3) Ph Neutralization and final cleaning solution

The direction was to mix the first step four to one water to solution...Its a white solution somewhat like milk with a solvent smell and a oily feel to it.
Wet the car and then wash the car with this allowing about 5 minutes to work into the paint..rinse off and dry the top of the car off....

Second step was not mixed so I used a soft sponge to apply this was a yellow solution no smell that I can recall...applied the same way with a 5 minute work in time rinse and dry the top off again...

Last step was a regular shampoo green in color and applied directly to the car from the bottle..no smell again that I can recall...rinsed the car and did the final dry off.

The car appeared to be real clean at this point the surface was very smooth over all just like I had clayed....I did have to clay some areas that had over-spray on them, other than that it was really clean...I was impressed.

I don't think that this elements claying its just a good process for removing all surface contaminates from the car. Something I would do about every 6 months when I do a complete detail.

After that I finished up with a edge blue pad on the rotary with SSR1
P-w-C with the PC using a Megs polishing pad
FK1 Pink Glaze by hand
Nattys paste wax by hand with FK1 QD spray

Here are the results!

I'm confused about this step. From what I had read the intended application is to be diluted 100:1 in water?

So, in the end do you feel that you cleaned up contamination that wasn't you had not previously removed?

If you bought the kit, why did you not finish with the 218 product?

According to the instructions that came with it I didn't see anything on mixing with water....I thought that was odd as well...the car was super wet so that helped in getting the suds up.

I had other products that I wanted to use on the car...all I wanted to do was wash off all the crap that was on the car.

Check Step 3.

...all I wanted to do was wash off all the crap that was on the car.
So there was contamination that was not removed by your previous efforts? Can you say specifically what that was (ie. water spotting/bird dropping etc.)?

I just looked that over and saw what you read...my mistake on that one....Thanks

I just brought this car and this is the first weekend that I have had time to do the outside detail...I could tell that it had never been clayed or had not in sometime...So I wanted to clean the car as best as possible so that I could remove the swirls and bring back the color to life

What happens if you get steps 1 and 2 on plastic and rubber trim as well as glass or lenses?

Nothing that I saw, I washed the whole car as normal..I will say that around the sunroof and some other areas there was some wax buildup....that was gone when I finished the car.

Re: FK1 Decomination Wash Reviewed

So was there a noticable reduction in contamination? Did you perform the baggie test to determine if claying was still needed?

Re: FK1 Decomination Wash Reviewed

I didn't do that test but I could see some areas that stilll needed to be clayed...bumpers and along the windows and the roof ....seemed like there was overspray on the car or something that was not coming off very easy.

Re: FK1 Decomination Wash Reviewed

So what is the benefit of using this system? It seems claying will do just as well, especially when planning to polish.

Its designed to take the place of clay according the web site and to remove vehicle wrap adhesives, industrial fallout, rail dust, acid rain, water spots, tar and sap, etc....I don't think that it replaces clay its a different way of cleaning the car is all.

Re: FK1 Decomination Wash Reviewed

I've used this kit before and I can honestly say it does not eliminate claying. Claying is still required on some areas where overspray is an issue. One thing I have found this Deco-kit to do is that it eliminated waterspots and bird crap a lot easier than clay.

I would still usa clay 1-2 times a year, but for every new combo I may want to add, this is my go to cleaner kit as it completely removes sealants, waxes, acrilycs, ect. without the need for a polish.

FK1 claims that this is better than claying since it grabs and releases contaminats form the core instead of claying which just cuts the top of the contaminant. It could be true, but I have no scientific study actually proving it.

Thanks JOY you where the reason I even tried this product and I have to say that I'm going to use it again with no second thoughts about it

Re: FK1 Decomination Wash Reviewed

I have heard that a decon was system will remove waterspots that neither claying nor polishing will remove? Did you happen to notice anything like that Beemer??

Re: FK1 Decomination Wash Reviewed

Also, if you liked the results of the FK1 Deco-Kit, you might wanna give ABC a look. They have a Deco-Kit that is supposed to be more effective and might even remove overspray. I'm definately gonna give it a look when my FK1 is empty.

Re: FK1 Decomination Wash Reviewed

I've read where people clay during step 2 to make it even more effective.

There where no water spots on my car so not would be the answer...I can;'t wait to get another car that has some real water spots to see how this dose

Re: FK1 Decomination Wash Reviewed

Sounds like an interesting product. How would you compare the decon kit to clay in terms of $$$$? Sounds like it might be a great method to use on neglected cars which have never been clayed.

Re: FK1 Decomination Wash Reviewed

My kit was $45.00 plus shiping and that was like $6.00 it says you can do 13 cars with this kit about $3.85 per car
