FK1 2180 Ultra Poly Wipe Sealant

Hello Guys



Is FK1 2180 Ultra Poly Wipe Sealant a chemical cleaner??



The FK1 website says: 2180 removes surface accumulation and oxidation while penetrating and sealing the pores of the paint, giving great depth and trueness of color.



I wasnt sure if this should be used in conjuction with the 303 Foam Pad glaze?? At first i thought as its a polymer glaze it would bond fine but now im concerned that 2180 will acutally remove 303.



Any advice on these products welcome.

This is what I was advised by Finish Kare when I enquired about something similar a while back ...



1. decontaminate surface - Paint Decontamination System



2. correct light scratches and swirls - Use #330 Mini Buff



3. Glaze for depth and to remove remaining imperfections - #303 Foam pad glaze



4. Seal Finish with 2180 Ultra Seal



5 Top with a kote of 2685 Pink Wax for extra depth and wetness



6. Final Detail with 425 Ultra Slick Poly Wipe Spray Detailer



* Steps 3,5,6 may be omitted but they do add another layer of Wow to the finish.

On a side note, I have tried Mark-V Glisten Sealant of late - This reminds me a little of FK1 #2180.



Glisten is classed as a sealer/polish (Co-Polymer Sealant) except with Carnauba added. Similar kind of results to FK1.



I think they (Mark V) might even private label some of their products for Langka's car care range. The paint sealant & finesse V compound is to my mind identical.
 
2180 has a cleaning rating of just 3 on the FK1 site, so it does some very light cleaning but that's not it's real use. I'd go ahead and use it over any glaze and in fact when I spoke to FK1 about using it with another glaze (RMG) they said use the glaze first then apply the 2180.



You can definitely layer 2180. When I used it on a repaint the first coat was soaked up practically like a sponge. The second coat went on significantly smoother and took a lot less product. The application of the third coat was more like you'd expect from an LSP. IMO I think FK1 overrates the gloss of 2180 when they say it's a 10. I don't use it as my true LSP, I use it as a base layer for protection. Well, it is my LSP when I use it on relatively fresh paint when I don't dare wax yet, but I'm one of those daring souls that by necessity puts a little faith in FK1 that it's safe for new paint.

Yes, the pore filling behavior can be observed on new repaints or old, permeable finishes. When I used it for the first time on an old car, my applicator grabbed, almost twirled out of my hand and the spreadability was terrible; generally a PITA. I switched to the DA, but it needed a LOT of product. As it fills the fissures, pits and imperfections it will go on smoother and smoother. I don't know but I've never experienced this effect so pronounced - just with the 2180. This very nature causes sometimes bad durability, because this product needs clearly more than one layer, and these layers must be worked in really well into the paint. When filled up, it will last "practically forever".
