FK 2180 durability?

Curious if anyone has done durability testing or can report on their experiences with the durability of FK's #2180 sealant? I have always preferred very durable and protective products for my cars (as a priority over shine), and was a long-time Z user for this reason. Just wondering if 2180 can match or surpass Z, Collinite, Klasse etc in the protection and durability area.

Thanks,

Mike

In terms of beading, 2180 doesn't last longer than Collinite (IME). I haven't used either Z or Klasse. It may last up to 3 months here, the third really looking sad/weak. I have heard from others that it does last quite a while for them, though, so I may have some pretty bad environments here. :nixweiss:

I've had good luck with 2180. I applied a coat to my sister's car in August when I left for college, and in mid-November it was beading impressively. Ended up topping with Collinite in November though (I can't resist), so I couldn't tell you how it's holding up now. I doubt much is going to outlast multiple layers of Zaino or Klasse, but 2180 topped with Collinite goes on and off easier than Klasse, and should last 90% as long.

it is the longest lasting lsp I've used by far. While FK1 claims up to 12 months, I'd say that 2180 may not last as long for everyone, due to our habits.

Once you apply 2180 to a CLEAN paint, it actually seals the pores of the paing. Very resistant to heat & water.

Great stuff!

Yes. 2180 has a learning curve. First it needs to be applied very thoroughly. In fact, the first application may not be as easy. As it fills the pores, the application is getting easier. You can actually feel this process. After the second/third coat (depending on condition) the durability will be EXCELLENT.

That is why I apply it with my pc

I had to keep repeating this post in my mind as I was applying my sample of 2180 for the first time today ... I keep thinking, "Man FMJ was Never this tough" ... I also had to keep reminding myself that 2180 will look and feel better and slicker tomorrow! ~~ Any other FMJ users now trying 2180 have to go through this mind game too?

one coat of #2180 was still going strong through winter @5 months on a customers jaguar. I topped it with nattys blue after that. I find that if 2180 isnt taken care of, as far as washing and qd'ing the durability gets to be very low. With the jag I washed it at least once a month but sometimes every 3 weeks during the winter. One my sisters car that sits outside 24/7 a combo of 2180, pink wax, nattys blue was dead of beading after 2.5 months. The look was still there though.

It just shows you how subjective it is, but with all that said I love it.

Mike, nice to see another memphian!! I put some 2180 the other week and water flowed off like a waterfall when I got around to washing after this week's worth of rain. I went ahead and threw a coat of pink wax on too so we'll see how it holds up.. The only other wax I've really used is meguiars and mothers and this pink wax blows it away in terms of depth, slickness, and easy on/off application (NO crusty flakes).

Anyways, I haven't tried zaino yet but I am definitly a FK fan.
