FK-1 2180 or Acrylic Jett

I haven't tried the FK1 stuff because of shipping problems, but AJ gets my vote. I did an X-5 two saturdays ago and I have never seen another X-5 that wet.

Much better than this? :D

Is 2180 as finicky about applying an ultra thin layer as KSG is? Do 2180 or Fx-100 stain trim?

no, however it is a thick sealant.

Synthetic waxes are safe on trims. Actually, you should cover the whole car is 2180 (after the car is thoroughly cleaned) including all plastic/glass/rubber etc... 2180 prevents oxidation.

Interesting, how about 2180 on the plastic fender/trim on a Jeep Wrangler? :bow

In regards to the original question, I'd go with 2180. I haven't

had a chance to use the AJ sample I was given a while back, so

the decision is not based on any objective or subjective appearance.

Just boils down to the fact that you can purchase 2180 in bulk. I don't

think AJ is offered in bulk yet. If you do more than one car on a regular

basis, 2180 would be a good choice. If it's just for your car, or family

cars, then I suspect that you could go with either AJ or FK1. There are

enough folks out here using both types, so I am convinced either would

be worth the investment.

usdm-my 16 oz bottle of AJ has been enough for around 40 coats so far (25+ cars, I'd have to check to be sure), plus a 3 oz sample to aka Patrick and I still have about 1/4th of a bottle left. I'd say pretty much anyone could get at least 50 applications per 16 oz bottle.

It's basically spray on surface, buff with MF (I go a standard MF) using low to medium pressure then turn over and finish

Scotty may be different.

Well, that's because you're like, a detailing god or something. :grinno:

Seriously, though, that is something to think about. I know for sure the

IW has been used to treat at least 10 cars sincee i first bought it, and

it doesnt even look like I made a dent in the contents. And I still have

some AIO left over from when i first bought it in 04.

I wish. ;)

It has more to do with how effective AJ covers each section with a minimal amount. :)

Bence-I apply AJ using a foam hand pad, usually 2-3 drops is enough per panel and lightly work it into the paint until it looks nearly clear, then remove whatever is left with an MF towel. I do a section or two at a time. As long as you apply it thinly and lightly work it in, the excess comes off very easily.

I found 2180 to be quite thick. It seems that it doesn't spread that well and needs more than other sealants I've used (KSG, Wolfgang). I was a little worried I had it on a little thick in spots. NO WORRIES! This stuff buffs off the easiest of ANY products I have ever used, wax or sealant. Easily removes and buffs to a great shine. Very slick, slicker the next day. I noticed some slight color bleed while putting it on (Single stage paint). I'm toying with the idea of some Collinite IW over the top, but I think I'll let it be for now. It's tough letting that Pink wax sit there unused though!

Nice to know that if it goes on a little thick that it comes off easy. Hey, wait a week or two and put some Pink Wax on, that's what it's for, LOL

Thanks, Scott! My method is almost the same. I just 'pump' the applicator first to prime it, to let it absorb the LLS (AJ) evenly, but then the amounts are the same. I've never had problems removing it.
