First time with PC, how did I do?

This was the first weekend I could use my new PC and Polishes.



I experimented on my 2002 Green 4Runner. with minor swirls and stuff.



NXT wash

SSR2.5 Orange pad

SSR1 White pad

AIO Grey pad

S100 by hand



Polishing can be messy.



Let me know how I did, I have a long list of cars I want to do, so this is only the beginning.

I am trying to get ready to goto a SB party, So I only did the hood. I just wanted to give it a shot, I plan to do the whole thing in the spring. Judging from how the hood came out, I think I will be really happy once I do the whole car.

Thanks everyone, I know I can do better. This was more of an experiment to see what the PC and some polishes can do. I noticed scratch and defect removal is difficult. I also noticed using a grey pad and AIO can make a difficult time of removing AIO.



Splatter and dusting are a pain in the butt. I almost think I need to was the car after I am done to get all the dust off.



I look forward to the spring or a heated garage to do an entire car.

Very nice, I got similar results my first attempt (photos later). The PC is the key, with good product under it, fantastic! How did this car look before your excellent work? In my case the paint was chalk board primo, really bad -- came right back!

The paint was in good condition, the SSR 2.5 + Orange was probbably overkill. It had some rock chips and scrathces I though 2.5 would revove, but I was wrong. The scratches are minimal now, but rock chips are there to stay. I am very new to using a PC, so I did not know what to expect.



A question I have - Which pad for AIO? I used grey on speed 4. All SSR products I used speed 5 or 6.



Another question is how do you know when you are using enough polish? I did get dusting, but I felt like I was using quite a bit of polish for such a small area.

I'll say! But because you used a PC, the danger of burning the paint was mitigated.



How long did you work with the orange pad and SSR2.5 to remove the scratches?

I was kinda wondering if I really *wanted* a PC even if I had a rotary already (Makita 9227C). I've read a lot of posts saying that paint defect removal is a LOT slower with a PC than with a rotary. I guess this just confirms it.

I use the grey pad for AIO too. I put 3-4 small dime size dollops on the pad and maybe a stripe on the panel. I blot up the polish into the pad, machine off. Then two passes at speed 2, two more at speed 4 and two at speed 5. The slow starting speed spreads the AIO nicely so I don't get sprayed at the higher speeds. Use enough AIO to make a nice film but not so much as to splatter. Run it in at a slow speed then rev it up.



For bad paint I use SFX-1 orange pad, SFX-2 (1Z) green pad, AIO grey pad. I use the same slow start speed settings for all these polishes. A very senior detailler instructed me on this technique.



The PC is very forgiving though slow for heavy restoration work. It's perfect for a beginner like me since paint damage is less likely. I think the PC is great for most work. I even used it to polish out a patch I had to hand sand and it worked fine. It was small patch though.
