First time using QEW Results (pics inside)

Well, I'm gonna have to say that I was scared stupid about putting a wet mitt on a dirty, dry car...But here it goes...



I used a 2 bucket method. One bucket was 2 capfulls (1 oz.) of QEW and 1 oz. of Meguiar's QD mixed with a gallon of warm water. The other was a gallon of warm water.



I used 2 chenille mitts with these 2 buckets. I did 1 panel at a time, then semi-dried with a terry towel and finished with a MF towel.



My car was moderately dirty with some salt and stuff from driving in the snow a little bit. After I finished, I inspected the surface and saw NO additional swirling or scratching. This stuff is great!



Although I looked like an idiot washing my car on the side of the road while its 40* out... I DON'T CARE :D ...It works great, that's all I care about.



Here are a couple pics as promised. It took about 30 mins to complete the wash. Sorry about the slight difference in lighting. It seems like its only light for 5 hours a day now. :(

I'm going to try my QEW for the first time soon as well. I too am a little scared going in. :eek:



But I was wondering if it was *OK* to use a 16x16 MF as the wash media, and maybe one of my new WW towels as the drying media. What do you guys thing of that? Yay or nay, and why?

If you do a search, you'll see that people have used sheepskin or chenille mitts, and also MF terry towels to wash with QEW, all without problems. As long as the media is not going to scratch, and has a good deep nap to trap the dirt, I think you're golden.

Inzane: As long as your car is not too dirty, you'll be fine. A lot of people use MF mitts to do the process, but I'm sure the 16x16 MF will be no different. Make sure you abraise the MF in the solution after each panel to dislodge any dirt. I was very scared, but now that I know this...I will be doing it every week :D. Good Luck!

Thanks. What I DO have in my possession are some Pakshak 16x16 (and 24x24) MFs, and a couple of his WWs. I haven't used any of these yet, but I trust their quality is excellent. I'm just not sure if its ok to go ahead and use these for a QEW, or if I should be saving them for cleaner duties. Also, I have a couple of the Wal-Mart sheepskin mitts (~$6 CDN), but I'm not sure how those would work for QEW. My thought is those mitts would make the wash a little more sloppy because it might be harder to wring them out and control where the water goes.



Also, are those 16x16's what you'd consider "MF terry towels"? The different styles and terminology for MFs is still confusing the heck outta me.
 
Pakshak is top notch. I mean you could use them if you want or just order up an MF mitt from them (which a lot of people use with QD).



I am currently using Chenille Mitts because they do a very nice job. I have a complete Pakshak kit on order. I will try the QEW with their MF mitt for washing and WW for drying when I receive it. I hear that combo works quite well. I use the 100% cotton terry towel to take off most of the water, then finish up with an MF to buff to dry surface.

As others have stated above, you can try an MF mitt. Yeah, terry is the weave. Like on your bath towels. So the 16x16 are terry weave. They will do really well for washing. I did that in the beginning, but I find cotton chenille wash mitts easier to use and to clean afterwards (because I don't have to wash them separately like MF's).

That's it? :D I think many here who use QEW have spent 10 times that on their paint.



Just funning you. Do whatever you are comfortable with. After all it's your car.
 
I would think that if the car is realy dirty with salt etc. that a spray down at a coin car wash would get rid of the heavy dirt and a follow up with QEW would work great.

It's not anywhere near 'dry washing'. I've been using QEW since 1993 with no problems whatsoever. I wouldn't use it on a $350,000 Bentley if I didn't have the utmost confidence in it.



If you feel more comfortable washing your car conventionally, go right ahead but QEW is not dry washing! ;) :p
 
I tried QEW for the first time last night too. I was also hesitant about it. So I actually used a sprayer similar to this one to "pre-soak" the area before using QEW and a chenille mitt.



Used 1 oz of QEW in 1 gallon of warm water. Was only planning to do a door or two, but ended up doing the entire car and wheels. Was a chicken, so I just used the weight of the wet mitt and no other pressure. Dried with a cotton towel. QD'd with Meg's FI and some Pakshak MFs.



My car was a little dirtier than GSRstilez's. My doors had a thicker layer of that white muck.

Coworkers were like "don't tell me you did that RV stuff last night".

QEW is a soap that doesn't require rinsing. It is also very gentle on the wax.
 
this stuff works. i live in jersey and we got hit hard a week aog, i qew washed my car that same nite. i used pakshak micros, but i used a spray bottle and wet each panel with water. i then use the two bucket method, the next day it snowed :( and the wax was still there(s100/collinite). today one week later, my car is still very clean thanks to poorboys spray & wipe. spray and wipe must have some kind of gloss enhancer because my paint looks incredible.
