First time polish for new 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Lead Car

I have had my 2004 Sequoia for eight months and I am ready to apply my first coat of polish. What would you experienced car detailers recommend for a first time application? It is a Marlin Pearl Blue color.

I do not have any products purchased as of now.

Thought that I would hold off until I got some input from this forum.:wavey

Nice ride!

I have a Pacific Blue 4Runner, which is a bit darker than the Marlin Blue, but here's a thread I posted about the detail I did on it a few months back. It's a bit long, so read it when you have some extra time. It took a week...LONG!!!

It should give you some ideas. I also second 6cyl's_of_fury's suggestion on the "Learn" button at the top. It has some great advice on how to get started with picking products and how to use them. There are a bunch of good products and methods to use them with, so take the time to read the previous posts and get an idea of what might work better for you.

Good luck and :welcome.

I'm not experienced, but after reading and reading and reading tons of posts and articles here, I decided on P21S GPEC because my car (04 Solara) is new like yours, and only in need of the mildest polish....Seems to be the general rule not to do anything more aggressive than you need to.

And, I'll be sealing with Megs #16 because I've used it for years and like it. For ease of use though, you may want to try P21S carnauba or its S100 equivalent. I used the GPEC and P21S carnauba combo today for the first time on my wifes RX-300 and I have to say I was impressed with the ease of application and buffing. Very little effort needed.

Along with the other suggestions already given, the Autopia guide to detailing is excellent for newbies like us, and it can be found here in e-book...I've read that twice already, and have found myself going back to it and picking up more info each time.

Hope this helps some!

Since that thing is such a house, my thoughs are toward long lasting products that are easy to use.

After thinking about it, I would probably do a claying once a year. I'd use AIO once every four months and Glanz it afterward. And I'd EO WAYD after every wash. Maybe not the most glamourous technique, but I'd be going for ease and longevity. I'm not sure on the 1Z longevity, but the Wax as you Dry applied every other week (good wash interval) won't let it get to that level.

Zaino might also be an option, but I can't recommend it as it's not a product I like to use, even though it has served my wife's silver car very well.

As far as washing goes, since it new new new, definately read this: http://www.autopia-carcare.com/inf-wash.html

Oh, and so you don't have to look up the acronyms:

Klasse All In One - Paint Cleaner/Sealant

1Z Glanz Wax - Sealant (does it contain carnauba?)

Eagle One Wax As You Dry - Spray wax
