first time claying...amazing result :)

I must share this with you guys:bigups



today I clayed my car for the first time using 3M perfect-it III clay and mixture of warm water and shampoo...I couldn't believe that my car was so dirty, after just few passes clay was black:nervous2:

side panels were good, but hood and roof were full of contaminats...

now it's all gone, car feels like glass and I applied paste 100% carnauba wax....

happy like a child:xyxthumbs
 
When I first started claying cars I was amazed at how they came out. And was amazed about how dirty the clay was afterwards!

So, no swrils or marring? Most will polish after claying.
 
Did yours look like this? Its pretty much a couple fast swipes on a 1x1 ft square :)



Took 4 hours and one 200g box of Megs Mild to make it all smooth again :work:

I've found that most of my customers so far are impressed mostly by the smoothness of an after-clay surface on their car. Sure they love how the whole car looks after I detail, but they can't stop running their finger across the slick surface.

It helps that I have them run their finger across the rough surface when they first drop off their car. :)

If my car did that the first time I clayed it, I think after a half hour into that, I would have ordered a decontamination kit from ABC or FK and finished the job once the kit arrived. If this was a customer's car, then you just have to do it the hard way.
 
the only thing is i much prefer using a qd or cg luber. some soaps can make clay disintegrate!! plus you can marr the paint..plus soap drying on your clear is NOT good.
 
Claying is always a must. ONR works great for a lot of things, including a clay lubricant. Waxing a car that hasn’t been clayed is like putting a car cover on a dirty vehicle before washing it.

Unfortunately it was for a customer. My car rarely takes over 30 min to do with the way I keep it up. The car had not been cleaned since the fires in SoCal last year so I'm guessing it was mostly ash :dig
 
Here I am with some pics....:D



I was amazed that clay was dirty only when passed over hood, rest of the car was nearly awesome, so clay just made it healthy... paint is soooo smooth after it. Swirls are minimal, since is black bimmer I don't panic any more, they are normal.

Anyway after clay I took some 3M Ultrafina with Scholl soft pad and corrected some parts, but generally it's great looking and very good maintained.

After that I put two coats of P21s paste wax and results are here.



Clay is my best friend now:D

Yeesh... that picture hosting site is *terrible*! imagevenue, that is.... pop-ups blocked, tries to run active-x controls, full page ads before it'll take you to the picture, then more ads..I never thought photobucket would look *good*, but it does compared to that place....

Clay is a huge time saver. When I think back and remember how much time I used to spend polishing to get the same results... thank goodness for clay!!!
 
That clay is DISGUSTING!



I clayed my car for the first time (I know, I know) a few week ago with the exact same clay and I got the same results. Took me an hour to clay it, and I probably went through 3/4 of a bar. The trunk and rear bumper was TERRIBLE. I've never seen contamination this bad or this color....It was an brownish orange color. Wow was it heavy duty. It was one of those times I would have loved to try out a decontamination kit.
 
Yeah, clay is awesome ... I first started using it a couple of years ago and the results are nice. The paint feels silky smooth after a good session with clay.



This is starting to sound like an Oil of Olay commercial. :D



I seem to get the most "grime" from my window trim ... I would assume this is mainly dye transfer, though.
