First Impressions of Finish Kare 1000p

akimel,

With it being two months since your inital application I would like to hear your opinions/thoughts on how FK1000P is holding up.

Jeff

I applied three coats of 1000p in early October. The car has seen a fair amount of mileage and been through a couple of rainstorms. I've washed the car two or three times since the last coat was applied. The car still looks great. The 1000p cleans up well. I'm impressed. Ask me again in February ... but so far, everything is A-OK. :bigups

You guys wouldn't believe how long it's been since I FK1000Ped the Yukon, and it's *still* just fine! But then I guess it doesn't get used the way most people's vehicles do (gee, guess none of my vehicles really do these days  ).

Anyhow, I bet Akimel will still be happy come February.

The FK 1000p is one of the best sealants out there in terms of shedding, appearance and longevity. I just re-did my car (#215 followed by two applications of 1000p) two weeks ago and it cleans up with no effort.

Not that 1000p needs any more props, but I am going to chime in anyway. I'd seen people talking about it for quite some time now, but never found a place to order it in Canada; last month I had to place an order from autogeek for some sanding supplies and decided to pick up some 1000p too. I've been using it a lot since then to see how I like it. My impressions on ease of use etc are similar to others; I do like a slightly damp foam applicator and do find it's a little more difficult to use than say DG 105, 845, WG DGPS, etc... Similar to Megs #16 in a lot of ways. It definitely benefits from a nice smooth freshly clay'd surface; even a little contamination can make it a bear to apply, imo. I also agree you have to watch for cakey-ness, but to be honest I always do no matter what I am using so that doesn't bother me much.

Where it really shines, as mentioned, is ease of cleaning. It definitely sheds grime of all sorts (dirt, mud, road salt, bugs, etc...) as well as or better than most LSPs I've used. It makes washing cars that have it applied, even really filthy ones, a breeze. I also like that you can get a little more aggressive in terms of the amount/concentration of soaps you use, since not much seems to put a dent in it. I haven't tried prep washing it off, but I absolutely believe it'd stand up to a single application. I also really like that it continues to bead/sheet when the car is very dirty...

Anyway fwiw, I really like it because it makes my job easier, which is good. :) My clients seem to like it too, which is also good!

+1. For me, this is what sets this product apart from peers:

It is absolutely outstanding in terms of still looking great even after the car has been in bad weather, even snow/salt. Nothing compares that I've tried. :xyxthumbs

I still have the little can that came with the gallon of FK425.

I tried it once on my wheels, comparing it to Collinite IW 845. The first 3 weeks both of them remained strong, but after the 4th, the 1000p started losing steam. In the end, the 845 won.

I'll have to try on paint again.

Interesting...my experience was different, so much so that I quit using Collinite on wheels in favor of the FK1000P.

I liked those little sample cans, wish they were still available.

Update Report:

It's been a little over 5 months now since I applied the 1000p to our CR-V. The car has been washed numerous times, including a couple of visits to the local coin-op, where I used the commercial detergents. It's been raining today, so I thought I'd take a couple of photos of the beading.

As you can see, the 1000p is still going strong. I am very pleased with the way this sealant has held up through these winter months, and I plan to use it again as our winter wax for the CR-V. 1000p enjoys the reputation of being one of the most durable sealants available on the market. My limited experience supports this reputation.

Finish Kare 1000p Hi-Temp Paste Wax is an excellent product.

Thanks for the update! Much appreciated. Your results are similar to my experience with FK1000P, but for me in the south its almost too durable. It outlasts how long I can wait to try some other product.

This is a common concern for many of us :grinno:

I've come to realize that the longevity of the product lets me breath a little easier during the winter season...and we've had one for the record books! A real horror show.

I'll grab some photos this weekend of my car and we can see how it's holding up. I've added absolutely nothing, car has been washed many times over the past months.

Akimel- Glad, but not surprised, so hear how well the FK1000P is holding up.

My FK1000P is still going strong too. Both on the beater-Tahoe (two coats, one each in December and January, so gee...no surprise that it's still OK) and also on the Yukon XLD (five coats in...get this...July 2009  ).

Heh heh, you guys who are compelled to do this stuff when it doesn't need doing ("trying new products" for the "fun" of it) are at the other end of the spectrum from Yours Truly :chuckle:

....FK1000P has just about petered out on the roof of my wife's (our DD) Forester (which only had one coat) but is still working ok on the rest of the car (it is evident the product is still there but maybe a bit tired). I applied the second coat in October but I don't recall when the first one was. .....I'll need to dig through this thread.

In either case, its not the easiest product to work with (relative to others I have used) but I think some of its other characteristics make up for that. ....kinda surprised the paint is still pretty slick.

Kean- Is the Forester parked outside? Just wondered as it seems the roof is one of the *last* panels to need redone on my vehicles; the roof of the Yukon is just like it was FK1000p-ed last week instead of so long ago.

....nope. Its garaged along with my car but it sits outside during the day M-F. Also, the roof only had one application of FK vs. The 2 I put on the rest of the car as a follow up shortly after. It simply doesn't bead or "feel" the same on the roof. The hood is ok but due to the bra I use on it, I apply an LSP to that part of the car more frequently. ....the rest of the car I really haven't touched.

it's been 118 days since I applied two coats of FK 1000p (w/FK #215 as base coat/cleaner):

...still holding up well. Surface is very glossy but there are contaminants starting to bond to the side panels. This would likely not see any further attention from me 'til we got to May or June.

Nasty winter here. The car has been washed a minimum of 1X per week over the past few months.
