First Engine Detail Of The Year....DIRTY

Superb work!



I'm with Ben - engine cleaning scares the whatsit out of me - I tried it once and ended up needing new spark plugs, rotor arm and so on AND I'd masked everyting off with foil.



I swore never again but I'm really tempted to give it a try as the engine bay's the one part that IMO really lets my garage queen down - and at least I can do it 1/2 in the garage if it's raining!!
 
I am in the process of detailing my brother in law's 98 Corvette. I, too, was nervous about the engine bay. I could not bring myself to hit it with the hose, so I diluted Orange Blast 10:1 with water, and used that and old mf and an assortment of brushes to clean. I purposely did not get things too wet. I then dried, and applied Meg's rubber and vinyl cleaner and protectant to the appropriate parts. Used AIO on painted surfaces. Everyone that has seen the engine bay, including the owner, has commented that it is one of the sweetest looking engine bays they've seen. It was pretty dirty to start, but no before pics. I may post some when the entire detail is complete. What I am taking a long time to say is that you can effective clean the engine bay without using the hose to flood the compartment. I am still scared about that, especially on someone else's garage queen. Good luck.

Thanks Ried, but I've got my sisters 01 Saturn SC2 that I am doing a full job on tomorrow and this car I hope to enter into the extreme detail contest. Its pretty bad lol
