First Engine Detail Of The Year....DIRTY

I did my first two engine details of the year...the first wasn't bad so I didn't snap pics unfortunately but the second..WOW

Well just covered basically the electrical connectors (not many on civics :p) and the intake and filters...



1 . the engine was somewhat warm and I rinsed it down with a nice stream of water

2. then I sprayed on simple green automotive degreaser (already pre dilluted), let that sit for about 30 seconds

3. then scrubbed with a toothbrush and a couple other brushes to get in the tight spots

4. rinsed it off

5. went over and spots I missed the first time

6. started the car to make sure it still worked hehe

7. dried the rest with a towel

8. then dressed the hoses with no touch tire spray. I will use something different here next time..I just had a little of this stuff left so I gave it a shot and it worked pretty good

Lee - are you referring to 303 Aerospace cleaner doing wonders for cleaning the hoses and plastic parts?

Or 303 Aerospace Protectant for treating the hoses and plastic?
 
no I didn't bag and mask off the battery on the second car..I did put foil around any exposed electrical connectors...

I was worried about cleaning my first engine also and everything turned out well. I used all the precautions I learned from some very good threads such as: start with a warm engine, spray wd-40 on electrical connections (thanks TOGWT), wrap alternator and distributor and other critical parts in foil, stuff rags in areas where water is to be kept out, use a low water pressure flow.



I used Auto-Glym engine cleaner with several small brushes. I recommend taking precautions and trying it. You will love the results. These threads can be found via the search function.

Perhaps I'll try it on my Mum's Freelander - that way if it doesn't work afterwards it's not my car!:D
