First detail on my new car!!

WOW..I didn't know you picked up a Vette...:woot:

Car looks fantastic !!!.. I see you used #38. I plan on picking up some after I go through my Megs GC Trim Detailer. I heard #38 is alittle better and easier to use.

Beautiful indeed! A good friend of the family has a '94, different color. My dad smiled ear to ear upon seeing your photos :up He has similar paint issues and unfortunatley some small clear failure in spots. Nevertheless, it still looks incredible. I routinely spray it with Crystal Mist before he takes it out. I need to re-do the Leatherique treatment on his seats and in my Caddy this summer.

It certainly looks like your 'Vette will blow away any one of the so-called "show car" 'Vette's I saw this past weekend.

Bill, my previous C4 had water spotting issues, and I've seen others with it. I wonder if there's something about them that makes them more susceptible or maybe something about 'vette owners that they wash 'em a lot (possibly with bad technique)?

Pat, I like #38 a lot for exterior stuff. I have GC Trim Dressing too, and certainly have nothing bad to say about it, but I like #38 a lot. :)

2000Firebird, you could do a search on the ZR-1, but a brief description is that it's the only production Corvette to use a DOHC motor. In development in the 80's, it was internally called the "King of the Hill", as that was the goal of it. It revved to 7,200 rpm and made 375hp the same year a Porsche 911 made 247hp, a Porsche 928 made 326hp, a Testarossa made 390hp, a 348GTS made 290hp, and a base Corvette made 250hp. While it is no longer the fastest Corvette ever made, and not the most unique, there has never been another one like it and probably never will be. :)

Yeah, the clear on these era 'vettes may be more spotting sensitive :nixweiss. Several years back my Dad had the car wet sanded and I believe it contributed to the present failure in some spots. :(

I have the Klasse twins on the trim and it looks fantastic for a 16 year old vehicle. I ought to reapply them to the underside of the hood soon.

For the wheel wells, I still have some old Engine Kote left over and it makes the rear wells in particular look absolutely great! They literally look like they just came from the factory :D

For the clamps on the exhaust pipes visible when one looks at the mufflers and on to the rear, I used some 0000 steel wool to get off surface rust and polished them with Flitz. That was about 6 or 7 months ago. The clamps continue to look absolutely pristine

It doesn't idle like a brand new car, it's a tad lumpy, but it runs great. It just passed emissions today by a healthy margin.

Probably the cams in the engine. Big cams mean lumpy idle. I <3 how big cammed V8s idle. :bow

Oh H-E-double touthpick Bob!!!!! :bow :2thumbs: CONGRATS!!! A '90 to boot too!!! Just imagine...some poor soul probably paid close to $90K for that car when it was new with all those outrageous dealer mark-ups and what not. Of the entire ZR-1 production my best bet is that the '90, '93 Anniversary Edition and '95 models will be the ones to have.

Lot's of luck with her...she's in the right hands now. ;)

Yeah but big cams and healthy emissions sometimes don't go hand in hand :p !

What was the factory hp rating on those Vettes?

The factory rating was 375hp and 370 lb-ft. To put it in the context of 15 years ago, here are some other 1990 MY ratings: Ferrari Testarossa: 390hp, Ferrari 348: 290hp, Porsche 911: 247hp, Porsche 928: 326hp, Chevy Corvette: 250hp

The engines idled very smoothly, they have different cam profiles on each intake valve, and a separate runner and injector for each valve (16 injectors/runners). The high-rpm lobe is shut off via a butterfly valve until a certain throttle, rpm, etc threshold is met (and you can turn them off completely with a dash-mounted power key). So they were quite smooth from the factory. The first thing I'll investigate is the engine and tranny mounts, and then a spark plug and wire change. But the car is smooth as heck when accelerating, just a little lumpy on idle.

1 Clean WS6, I thought you'd appreciate it! :D It may or may not become collectible, but I agree with you it's a strong candidate. But I'll love owning it either way. :)

That is an interesting engine, I like the key for the high rpm lobe.

Sounds like a good plan with the plugs and wires but I'd check or just change the fuel filter, funny how that thing is so overlooked :p and can cause so many things. I didn't realize how much HP they were putting out then, pretty impressive. Never been a Chevy/GM fan but the Vette is another story:xyxthumbs

Have fun with that;)

Is it appropriate to say i hate you right now? Not so much hate really ans extreme envy. Absolutely gorgeous car, with an awesome engine to boot. Gosh you're a lucky lucky man. Have fun with it (PS, how long you think that first set of tires will last you :D )

Heheh, it's ok that you hate me... I felt the same way about people when I didn't have it! Actually, my first tires won't last too long because they are old. The rears are 8 years old, and the fronts are 5 (and mounted wrong) so I'm gonna try to send them out in a blaze of smoke. Not sure if I'll get F1 Supercars or T/A KD's to replace them. The car won't go out in rain, so wet handling is a non-issue.

Just thought I'd throw up this shot, even though I didn't actually detail it yet:

Aurora40- Glad to see you found a 'vette you like (and I think you chose the right model, too). Sure does look like it's in great shape.

Congratulations on the Vette! It looks like you got yourself a fine ride. I don't usually care for red, but I have to admit that it looks pretty nice on that car. I'm considering importing a C4 coupe to Japan (if I can arrange it to be shipped within a reasonable price), and possibly even one more for a client of mine. Very nice!

 :soscared:

Just kidding... You've got a PM. :)

Edwin, I plan on driving it about 1-2k miles a year. Not a daily driver by any means, but I'm not afraid to put miles on it if I'm enjoying the drive. :)

Accum, the Callaway sure was cool, but you are probably right. I suspect this car will be a lot more trouble-free over the long-haul, and they were both pretty thrilling when you put the hammer down.

Actually, I've been driving the Aurora more often lately and man is it a nice driver car. I think I'm gonna be a bit less uptight about that car and enjoy it a bit more. My wife might start driving it more, but she really likes the Regal.

Good idea. I sometimes think we sorta get our priorities a bit skewed, I know I have with the S8 :o
