First detail on my new car!!

Well, I spent the weekend cleaning the car up. I spent pretty much both days in their entireity. I didn't do everything, but pretty much all the biggies. I'll wipe the doorjambs, clean the wheels and wheelwells, and clean the glass eventually.

I spent most of my time on the interior. It was in nice shape, but it could be better. Everything is mint, no wearing etc, but it was a little dusty. I used APC+ at 16:1 on the carpets as needed, followed by distilled water to help rinse the APC+ out, but mostly just vacuumed.

Then I wiped the doors and dash down with distilled water and treated with Pinnacle V&R protectant. I was gonna use #40 but wanted something more matte and with slightly less cleaning power (it's a 15 year old car). I hit the weatherstripping with Vinylex because it has more cleaning power than #40.

The leather I cleaned thoroughly with Lexol leather cleaner, then treated it with Lexol conditioner. The next day I treated it with Pinnacle leather conditioner. It is really much more supple feeling now, and smells great.

I washed and used Gold Class bug & tar remover as needed, and then spot clayed the exterior. I didn't want to go nuts with polishing until I got a feel for the paint. I would have gone with #80 or #82 by hand, but I've been itching to try Pinnacle paint cleansing lotion. I wasn't as impressed as I thought I'd be. It dries out quickly and gets sort of dusty if you aren't careful (and this was by hand). Also you have to work it a lot or it is hard to buff off. It did brighten the already bright and glossy paint, though. The difference side-by-side was clear, though not huge. Then I topped that Pinnacle Souveran, which added a nice depth and shine. Oh, prior to polishing/waxing, I hit the black beltline molding with #38. Man was that easy to use and it looks so black.

I took the car out for a spin today after work, and man is it a blast! I snapped some picts afterwards, and I'll wipe it down with Final Detail later tonight:

looks great. was it easier finding this than a callaway 'vette?

The Callaway I looked at is for sale again by the new owner. So I could find one no prob. However, it's harder to find one in the condition one wants. I didn't want a car that drove 800 miles in 15 years, nor one that had driven 50k miles, etc.

There were 3049 ZR-1's made in 1990, and 58 Callaways, which does help the odds a lot... :D

Both cars are amazing, especially for the time period.

I see you finally got the Vette - good for you :xyxthumbs

[about the inside] It's so red !

[about the outside] Nice color - this can really glow :wavey

Unmistakably a C4 hood! I thought you just got an R32? I haven't been around in a while, so if I missed the thread, post up a link! :D

Not me! I still have my 2001 Jetta. You are thinking of Adg44

The avatar picture was a detail I did last year.

I loved working on that carpet. So plush and easy to clean (in my case)

Hmm, sorry about the confusion there... :( I thought you were talking with Adg44 about getting an R32. One of you had a silver one, and the other was looking for tornado red... :o

That one you did looks to be a 1991-1993? I'd guess 1993? They removed that divider that excludes the passenger so much, plus it's got later door skins but not the 1994+ Lear seats.

Aurora looks great. How many miles were on it when you got it? Love that red.

My new 'vette has 21,522 miles on it right now. :D Red on red is fairly common, but I really love how it looks.

You better have the buick, I'm sure it was faster anyways. ;)

We still have the Buick. It's humming along nicely and drives ever so smooth (albeit floaty) with the new Michelin HydroEdges. Not sure what we'll do with all the cars we have.

The Buick has been moved to parking in the driveway, though.

I was free. You could have shot me a PM... You know you wanted me to drive the car after the detail :p Time to go Esprit racing?

Looks great. I wasn't a fan of the bright red, but it looks good on your car. Now that you have so many cars, just do what my parents did. Send one to the body shop to be restored, put 2 in the garage, give two to your kids, one in the driveway, and drive the rest daily.

PS- tell the Buick that it's not her fault she got kicked out of the stable. Daddy still loves them all the same :D

ahhaa at combining the word buick with the word fast.

what was the zr1 option ? i cant seem to remember

I seem to remember a few late 60's early 70's muscle cars that were overlooked cause they were Buicks, I believe the GSX and they were giving alot of other cars a run for their money. And a Grand National with alittle ole 6 cylinder thats was whoopin' butt when it came out in the 80's:D

Really like that Vette it looks great my Uncle loves that bodystyle and owns 2. Plus you can't go wrong with porno red interior:p :xyxthumbs

 car! Paint and interior look terrific for a 15-year-old car!

So....how does it run? :)

The paint is really that glossy and bright, but not as perfect as it looks in the photo. Some water spotting and swirling that needs correction. But even if it looks as it does now, I'd still be very happy. The interior really is as mint as it looks. No wear on the leather or carpeting anywhere. It looks great.

It runs strong. It's funny, with the power key off, it feels like my old Corvette. With the key on full, it is wicked. I'd like to change plugs, wires (and of course clean and store the originals) and stuff like that. It doesn't idle like a brand new car, it's a tad lumpy, but it runs great. It just passed emissions today by a healthy margin.
