First detail for my new car

Eye Have You
Well I recently purchased an 07 Toyota FJ Cruiser(Black Cherry Pearl), but I also just moved into my new apartment for school. So bare with me, I am a poor college student that can't afford a PC so all of this will be by hand. My car will be parked outside, but underneath a car port so it will still receive some sort of protection from the elements. :nixweiss

I've already got 303 and some Sonus Vision & IG for the interior and windows. I'll by claying it to with Clay Magic, my real question are regarding some sealants. I want to go with a Klasse AIO base. I've heard lots of good stuff about Klasse, but now with this new VOC compliance I hear it's not as good anymore. Any suggestions on this? Remember this is a new car so there is very little wrong with it, some hairline scratches from stupid dealership.

To top the AIO I'm debating between lots and haven't really found a straight answer. I want something that will be durable, but not look bland. I've heard SG is durable, but looks very sterile and not that great. So i'm looking at others with more depth to them for my black cherry.

- UPP (what is the difference between Platinum UPP and 4* UPP?)

- Collinite 476 ( I hear this is very durable)

- DP Premium Surface Shield

- Wolfgang Deep Gloss Sealant

I'll be S&W it often, then I might top with AW after that. AW seems to be a quick and easy polymer that looks good.

Thanks in advance for any input. :2thumbs:

yes i can afford to buy a new car, no i wont spend $150+ on a PC when i can just do it by hand. i'm not OC

Okay well I'll look into getting a PC, but any help with the sealants? Will any of those do well over AIO? I'm assuming it comes down to preference.

What about the AW, can I spray that over it after a wipe down with S&W or could that cause some potential problems?

Dude for the cost of a tank of gas you could buy all of those LSPs. Try them all and report back how they work along with pics!

Ok, if you can afford a brand new car IN college, god I wish I had your $ per hour as a part time worker.

Bottom line: If you pay for a new car say xx,000$, what the hell is the problem of paying 200-250$ to maintain and clean it the right way.

You will not get near the results you can get with a pc just by hand. And if you plan on using the fj for what it is meant for, you will be needing the pc to take out waterspots, swirling and scratches. Just look at a nice PC kit with pads and polishes at autogeek or even autopia car care. Members here get a 10% discount :)

Quit with the buy the car, not the care attitude. It only gets bigger down the road.

And before you do anything to your brand new , call toyota and make sure there isnt a period of time where your not supposed to touch the paint.

Mothers volvo cant be buffed/polished for a year. I advise you download the guide to detailing ebook and read it up as well.

The Klasse SG is good, but can be hard to work with. Esecially on your dark color or if you dont apply it thin enough. My vote would be for the WG deep gloos sealant. I have used it on several vehicles and have been very pleased. Goes on easy comes off easy, and no streaking at all. Its not as durable as Klasse, but Im a nut about keeping my truck clean so its not an issue with me. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice guys.

About the PC, I completely understand where you guys are coming from but it just seems that you really only need a PC to 1) cut down the time to wax a car and 2) use it to take out swirls, scratches etc. out of a car that you can't do by hand. Now being a brand new car, do I really need to worry about swirls or scratches if I take good care of it by hand? Pleaes correct me if I'm wrong in my thinking about this, but I will still look into hopefully getting one soon.

For what it's worth, one of my vehicles is fairly new too. I found that the NXT I applied with the pc 7424 was much better, more glass like than any LSP I've ever applied by hand.

You can get by without one, but having one takes you to a new level of finish care that shows today and into the future.

Your right to a point. But honestly though, no matter how you wash it, your going to eventually get a few swirls here and there. Especailly considering the color of your FJ. Right now you prolly dont need one. But it is a good tool to have. Personally I like to apply my waxes and sealants by hand anyway. Its easier to get into the tight areas. You can always wait until you actually need one before you buy it. If you do take the plunge order one in a kit that comes with the pads.

I honestly wouldn't worry about getting a PC now so long as you really take care of it. It is definitely a time-saver which can be important in college considering that time could be spent doing other things such as homework, BLEH!

Personally, I use UPP. 4* and Platinum are the same thing so don't even worry about that. The problem with it is that it only really lasts a couple washes so it would be ideal to put 2 or 3 coats of it. There's also the option of topping it with a carnauba but it's definitely not necessary.
