First 05 Vette

I posted this here and not in the show cars section because of the story behind this car, read and enjoy.

This is an interesting story behind this car. I delivered a detailed BMW at an office complex and in the lot I saw this Vette. (didn't look nothing like the pic) Lets just say it need some TLC. I wrote a personal note and put in on the window. Told the owner it needed a clay bar treatment and a paint seal. I left a flyer, and some articles on my company. Guess what, the owner called me the next day and hired me to do the car. He was intrigued what clay was all about. (I think the personal note got his attention) in any event he was like a kid in a candy store when I brought him the car after I was done, I got the best compliment, he said it looked better than when he bought it new. Yes I got to drive it. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great Idea. One time I left a business card with a little note on the back. It was a car that had a for sale sign on it. It was in some sad shape. I basically said, if you let me detail it, you can sell it for a lot more. No luck on that one.

Nice work not only on the detail (that is to be expected) but also on snagging a new customer. I have picked up several using my business cards. In fact, I was out at the office of one of those customers today....and I have been cleaning their cars twice a month since the fall of 1995 and they have referred me to other people as well. All it took was one business card placed on one of the owner's wife's Acura at my kid's school.

See a nice car, leave a card. Add a personal note if you see any specific problems. Costs next to nothing and takes very little time.

Oddly enough we did our first 2005 Vette today as well. The customer is a younger guy around my age and insisted I go for a rip with him after we finished up with it. What a rush!

A Corvette is a pain in the butt if the Corvette is neglected! unless you have a hoist but still you have to jack up the back end to get the hoist arms in place or you are a vary short guy/gal, specially a black one. Corvette's have hard paint, they are mostly make of fiberglass the newer ones are made of something less. Detailing the inside is not that bad at all.

Here is a link to Chev Corvette web site.

I recently detailed a two week old 05 Audi S4 Cabriolet. Full claybar treatment followed by the Klasse twins. After I was done, we cruised over to the dealer to get the plate for the car. There was one in the showroom exactly like the one I detailed. I pointed out to the owner how much better his car looked than the one in the showroom. It was a rewarding feeling. I was tempted to ask the dealer if they would like to hire me as a detailer, at least for their show-room cars. Does anyone know if Audi's come from the factory with ANY kind of protectant? This seemed to bead water a little, but not much.

Did a black one today. Six months old, one owner. I showed him the TOUCHUP PAINT that was on the car, and he said there were only 30 miles on th car when he took posession... he left happy with the shine, but on his way back to the dealer...

BTW, we're doing four to five FULL details per day now :)

Today was the Vette, a BLACK MB S500, a BLACK AUDI A6,a white Sienna Van, a silver MIata.

Jim-I envy all except the minivan. Definitely my least favorite vehicle to detail because 99% of them are rolling dumpsters.

Anything different about the C6 we need to know about?

The electronic key is strange... it does not need to be inserted, apparently just present. Press the sart button, and go.

I've not cared for Vettes since the 60s, but this model may change my mind. Very streamlined, sleek.

So the starting procedure is similar to the new Mercedes? I have a few customers with newer S-class and you just need to have the chip card with you. There is also a regular key but I think it is really cool to just get in and hit the start button. The chime and message "don't forget chip card" is irritating though....

BTW, glad to hear business is so good for you. April was a great month for me too. Almost no rain! Now rain has been in the forecast since yesterday but the weather guessers keep pushing back its arrival. :angry
