Hey all,

Although they appear to be having some issues with the download site Firefox 3.0 was released today. I managed to upgrade two of my machines before they changed the link back to 2.0.0.14.

Here is a link to C/Net regarding the download problems.

Problems delay Firefox 3 launch | Tech news blog - CNET News.com

If you can get through you won't be disappointed. I have it on two machines and the talk about it being faster appears to be true from what I have seen so far. I have a set of about 10 pages that I frequently open at one time and the entire group loads much faster than they previously did...

I've been using a beta release of 3 at home and really like it. I downloaded the official release a bit ago on to my work computer. Works great so far!

any big differences visually? its downloading right now..

edit: looks great. not a big change, but a nice subtle difference.

i like the new options 3 provides like tab saving

very fast indeed. the tabs are all grayed out like safari but working great so far. when i get time i'll start poking around for new stuff to play with

The best part I like about FireFox 3 is the ability to save passwords AFTER you've successfully logged in to a site. I know I ran into one bug in the beta version where it had trouble accessing a Citicard website so hopefully that's been fixed.

One problem so far for me is that Ver 3 is not compatible with AVG 8.0's SafeSearch. I just might ditch AVG in favor of Avast! because Vista didn't feel much slower compared to XP until I installed AVG 8 Internet Security. I have the same suite installed on other XP machines that are much slower and older, and it only seems to affect Vista's performance.

EDIT: Now that I don't have this AVG SafeSearch feature enabled, my websurfing speed feels normal again.

Wonder what extensions cease working.

I haven't tried it yet but read to do this...

1) type about:config in firefox address bar

2) Right click in bottom console and choose New > Boolean

3) Add the following: extensions.checkCompatibility

4) Set value to FALSE

This will ignore any version updates and your addons will work as normal.

Lol, kinda been out a long time. The Release Candidates are finally out but they had usable betas before that and alphas before that... just have to go to the development section of their site.

I've been looking forward to FF3. They were hoping to break the download record with it's release, but I'm assuming that didn't happen. I've been very pleased with the FF browser for years now.

I've always liked Firefox and 3 is pretty nice so far. It crashed on my yesterday, I forget exactly what I was doing, but I had to reboot to get it to come back up again. Either way, it's way better than Internet Explorer ever was or is.
