Finishing up on rotary...

Im still leaving lines/holograms on cars finishing up with a black pad @ 1200 rpms and hi-temp smooth cut or optimum polish. what am i doing wrong? its not crazy holograms but i can still see lines after i wash it down. do i need a lighter polish? do i need to slow down the speed? im moving about 4" per second.

i'm not that experienced with a rotary yet (i use a hitachi)...but i haven't had any issues finishing with Meg's finishing pads or Edge 2000 blue pads. this was with Menzerna FPII.

i usually slow it down to 600-700rpm as the polish breaks down for the last pass or so.

You most likely aren't removing the initial swirls you put in there from your 1st step? Speed shouldn't play that big of a role when final finishing. 1200 is fine for me.

I finished down flawlessly yesterday on a Jeep Cherokee with blue Edge (finishing, super light polishing) and 106ff at 600RPM. I worked it at ~1000RPM and last pass at 600 finished nicely!

is hi-temp smooth cut or optimum polish consider light? how many passes do you guys make? its not that big of a deal for me because they are very light if any at all and i do dealership cars.. but i promised them a hologram free finish because when i went in there all the cars were covered with them and i think i want to follow through on the promise.

Agreed unless you have a contaminated pad.

 ahah! you guys are funny! i was a hairline away from picking up the Menzerna line up but decided not to and went with Hi-Temp and some optimum polish.. but man, i am curious as hell to see what the big fuss is about Menzerna. People sure was right about HTEC :woot2: . The reason is didnt pick it up is because of the price and the fact that its not sun friendly. im definitely going to pick up some small bottles of it next time around!

What pads are you using your HTEC with on your rotary?

Jim

I have to say that the guys talking about the Menzerna polish are on to something. Green or white LC CCS and FPII, 85RD, 106 or RE5 will all finish just perfect.....even on Honda soft black.

Check to make sure you are not using alot of product on the pad. I too noticed that I would induce holograms into the paint until I came across someone on this forum who mentioned to use less polish on the pad. My rotary effectiveness went up in multiples after this simple tip. Try it out and good luck!
