Finishes keep getting worse?

I recently had the misfortune of slightly swiping someone's minivan in a parking garage with my old F150 truck. I unfortunately cracked their brakelight and left a note with my information without hesitation. I know that some people would have just kept going, but although I am not superstitious I believe in "what comes around, goes around". And it is just the right thing to do.

P.S. I hope that that inconsiderate A__ H___ winds up paying for the damage !

HSomeone side-swiped my 280 ZX Turbo in a parking lot some time ago. I found a noted on my windshield with a name and phone number. The number and person turned out to be fictitious...probably some people saw it happen and the idiot wanted to make it look like he was doing "the right thing". The body shop never matched the paint right and I had a rear quarter panel that was a different color for about a year until the lease ended. The car was in the body shop so long, that the battery died. When they charged it up, the morons forgot to disconnect the battery terminals and they fried my electrical system and radio!@ I was not a happy camper, and they didn't even have Prozac bach then..... It's a good thing I turned down that job in the Post Office..

In Michigan we have what they call the NO-FAULT insurance law. If someone dings your car in a parking lot, your own insurance covers it no matter who is at fault. You can not sue. Thats why here no one cares about holding onto the door when it is windy or about parking to close. Someone could purposely bang their door into your car and just say it was an accident and there is nothing you can do to them legally. Also, in Michigan I believe you are allowed five non accident repairs on a vehicle before they can raise your rates. Like a cracked winshield, bent rim from a pothole, or door dings.

My advice with PDR is to bring cash. What may be estimated as a $150 repair can usually be paid for with half or less of that if you do cash. It isnt fair to the franchise but the technicians normally do not think twice.

"I plan on paying cash, can you provide a discount?"

Ok....but with a 500 dollar deductible that has to be one hell of a door ding for them to cover it

I agree. I learned the hard way never to go with a 500 or 250 dollar deductible. :) Someone shot out the windows of cars in my neighborhod and my car was one of the ones hit and then a month later I slid on a patch of ice hitting an embankment, bending a rim, and everything that connects it to the car. Some insurance companies offer 1000 dollar deductible insurance.

Way to go! I only wish more folks had some sense of responsibility!:up

The other night my wife and I went to a hockey game and were herded into a huge lot with thousands of other cars. You don't get a choice of where to park. I recorded the license plates of the cars parked next to me "just in case".

Sad that we have to live this way.:(

Depends on your insurance company. In my case, the rear drivers side door is damaged. They will repair the dent, repaint, color blend the front door and rear quarter panel, then re-clearcoat painted and blended panels. Adds up pretty quick. This is a high end shop though, and I'm sure there are cheaper ways to do it.

You're probably right, but I really dont have a choice. I tried my best to pick the absolute best shop. Every car in the shop (which they gave me a complete tour of) was higher dollar than mine, and even some rare collectibles. We'll see, I'm hoping for the best.

HA! THis topic brings back memories. About three years ago, I was sitting in my Explorer waiting for the ol' battle axe to come out of the grocery store. This Expedition pulls in next to me with all these kids in it. The lady driving it can barely park it to begin with. When she finally gets it right, she parks and the doors fly open. WHAM! Right into the side of my new used, dentless vehicle! It was the rear driver door that hit my rear quarter panel, leaving a nasty vertical crease. I got out of the car and was a bit edgy. Okay, I was fuming. I didn;t swear, but I yelled very loudly. Needless to say, the lady's insurance company covered that one!

It seems every black car I do is in worse condition than the last... this is a 2009 with about 40,000 miles on it....
