This is my first post to this site, although I've been interested in detailing for quite a while. A few months ago, I took the plunge and bought a rotary buffer. Since then I've researched how to use it, knowing that rotarys can cause big problems if you don't know what you're doing. Today, I've tried to use it to remove some very fine scratches that are most evident when looking at the reflection of the garage lights in the paint. I took a white buffing pad and went over the scratches with 3M Finesse-It II Machine Polish. However, I could tell almost no difference in the scratches. I also have some 3M fine cut compound that I've used in the past by hand, but I've heard that you should not use this with the rotarty unless absolutely necessary. Is the Finesse-it polish not agressive enough for the scraches, or is something else better? I'm also using only very light pressure, so should I press down harder and temp fate? I also have a yellow pad, but I'm afraid that using this with the polish could cause swirls. Thanks for any and all help!
