Finally used my sample of the new Optimum Coating

I tried it on a fender a while back-the same one I got to practice the rotary on. I then promptly forgot about it due to my then upcoming surgery, visits from my kids, etc.

I decided to try it on a few sections of my own car. The spoiler, mirrors and front bumper...then I got carried away and applied it to my whole car, wheels included.

The application is a little tricky compared to Opti-Seal. If you can apply it thin enough, I guess you can get away with it flashing off with nothing to buff. Since any thick areas cannot be wiped off later and will in fact have to be polished off, I decided to err on the side of caution.

What seemed to work very well was to use a large MF covered foam pad. Lightly spritz one side and then spread, then flip it over and continue to work down any high spots (sort of like what works with Acrylic Jett). I then waited about a minute and then went over the section with a MF towel. I also applied it to the sunroof glass and windshield. What was interesting is how there seemed to be some filling properties in a couple of the bird bomb etchings in my hood (the previous owner was obviously not an autopian ;) ) making them somewhat less visible.

The look is similar to Opti-Seal, wet and glossy. It is also very slick.

Rain isn't forecast at least through January 20th so no idea when I can see how it beads. Durability is said to be extremely good, my understanding is cars are beading after a couple years since application. Going to be hard to not put anything over it, also will be doing some conventional washing so the polymers in ONR don't give it a small boost with each wash.

I'll try to get more pictures tomorrow, it was near dusk when I finished and my camera batteries were on fumes.

I am not sure when it will actually be released nor what the pricing will be.

Wow. The paint looks really, really great! I'm curious to see what the results are going to be.

BTW, the tires look great too. What did you use on them?

The whole car is very smart Scott ! its going to be really interesting to compare the new coating to Opti Seal

Looks great Scott!

Can you explain the application method a bit more...do's and don't...and why the special care required?

The special care is because if you leave any thick spots that the carrier doesn't flash off and it leaves behind any residue, you will have to polish it off. No going back the next day and wiping it off like you would with other products.

The main thing is to make sure any areas not clearing out in about a minute, you should go over them with an MF towel. As long as you do that, you shouldn't have any problems. I have enough left for 3 cars (based on what it took to cover mine) so I will play around with it a bit more to see if there is any easier way to apply it-although it isn't hard now.

No it does not stain trim, it makes it look great. I coated a new Grand Cherokee today, super results, dealer was amazed, and so was customer. It adds depth(and 2 microns) to the finish, and it's very slick, plus application is much like opti-seal. It also did wonders on the factory fake chrome covers over the mags , it's what teh dealer remarked on teh most.

Wow, 2 microns, that's great! I'm presuming if it cures that thick, it must fill light swirls?

Looking at my car in the sun today, yeah. I last polished it when I bought the car in November 2007 (other than spot polishing the hood in March) so the paint is definitely not perfect-not that I even got it perfect then. ;) Anyway, the reduction in the light spider swirls was noticable. Didn't fill them in completely but enough to notice. Like with any other product, the better the prep, the better the results.
