filtermags....

Has anybody used or heard any reviews on filtermags? They are high powered magnets that attach to the transmission oil pan or around your oil filter to help keep small metal particles from getting back into the circulation and damaging engine parts. They seem like a good idea as far as an aid to filtering but I was curious if anybody had any expwerience with them. Thanks.

I see them being more beneficial during the initial break in of the engine because that is when there will be a lot of metal shaved off of the moving parts. After 2K miles or so, any metal shavings you might have wouldn't be nearly big enough to do any damage to the engine.

In the 80's and earlier many manufacturers put a magnet inside of the automatic transmission pan. GM and Ford both did this and I believe Mopar did also. They work very well.

Yeah I have a 1995 Jeep and it has a magnet in the trans. oil pan and it usually has sludge in it when I change the transmission oil so I figured they would help some, but like was stated earlier maybe the particles it catches are so small they wouldn't reallyt hurt anything anyhow. just curious as to if they really do help to make a difference

I believe a lot of mfgs. still do this. I know I have dropped the pan on a 1999 & 2001 Tacoma, and a 2000 Solara, and they all had multiple magnets in the pan - with shavings attached.

Oil plugs also are coming with a magnetic tip on them, but i've rarely seen much stuck to them ...if you have metal foating around your engine, then there's probably a bigger problem than a magnet can cure
