Figure 8 pattern

Ok... I feel really, really dumb



I noticed that everyone usually recommends to use a figure-8 pattern when applying a product with a PC. How do you do a figure-8 pattern? :nixweiss

Is there any logic behind applying products in a figure-8 pattern? Is it better than sraight side-to-side, front-to-back, or circular patterns?

i believe in applying in circular patterns, i feel it gives me the most coverage.

never even heard of it.....I pretty much go up/down, then side to side, then repeat up/down...

I'm pretty sure the figure 8 thing started off in the world of rotary polishers, where the continuous motion of the figure 8 pattern would ensure that the machine never stopped in any one area and thus possibly cause problems.



Personally I, and so do a lot of others, don't use the figure 8 with the PC and just use overlapping linear motions as demonstrated by Steve's article.

What 4DSC said. While how you move the machine is important with rotaries, *IMO* it doesn't really matter much with random orbitals, because, well, they're RANDOM ORBITALS.
