Sean.. you did the right thing by paying the ticket and chalking it up to experience.

$124 is cheap compared to years of paying points and higher premiums.

Everyone lambastes the cops.. except when it is their emergency the cops are responding to.

i just went through something similar, he might be BSing you about not getting points off you pay it. if i would of just payed my ticket, it would of been a automatic 4 points on my license. bullcrap. I set a date and went to court, before the judge started the cop came and pulled his people outside to talk about the tickets. he asked if i wanted to still fight it or if i would be okay with him just writing the ticket off as 'impeding' in which i would receive no points. i really didnt have a case against him i think i could of won with.. so i just said yes sir il take that. i still had to pay 110$ but received no points. if you can get away with not having the points, definately take it. I would check with your state to make sure that you won't receive the points if you just pay the ticket, sounds fishy.

Just make sure you are not getting any points!

I went to court to plead "not guilty" on a speeding ticket (just to delay the timing) and was told by the bailiff (sp) as I was arranging a court date, "Why bother, per the section of the law you have been cited, you will not get any points." So I turned right around to the judge and amended my plea to "no contest".

Well, 2 weeks later, the points appeared. GRRRRR!

The only good thing was, as I was discussing the point situation, the guy behind me tried to bribe the judge with a $200 check for a DUI!! Judge said in court "What's this?? A check! For $200. Made out to me!" Told the guy (not US) "I don't know how it works in your country, but here, this is a crime. I recommend you take this back, we'll forget about it and you must get yourself a lawyer."

It was a good laugh for most of the courtroom

To my understanding, in CT, "no points" does NOT mean the insurance company will never find out.

Sure, by paying the ticket for the red light violation, you are effectively pleading "no contest" and the DMV spares you the points on your license. BUT regardless of whether or not you are issued points, the CT DMV keeps records of ALL tickets issued and paid (3 yrs for minor, 10 yrs for major) ... and you can bet your butt that your insurance company will find out at next renewal time when they check the DMV records.

It's different in states like NJ, where insurance companies just look for the number of points on your record.
