Fiberglass depth Guage

well... the Autopian community has been so great to me. I've learned so much and finally feel like i have the confidence to clean my car properly. So today i decided to do something to sort of give back to you all. I know as a new member one of the hardest things for me was figuring out all the acronyms... so i came up with this: Autopian Acronym Dictionary

It's not much right now, and by no means complete. But i think it's a good idea. Now people who are new, or have been gone for some time, or who just read a post and have no clue what some of the letter combinations stand for, can go to that page and look it up. If anyone has sugestions to make it easier to read, or if anyone see's any errors or anything let me know. Also if you think there's one that should be added please let me know. I want this to be as complete as possible. you can email me at [email protected], or just post the corections/changes here and i'll try and take care of them as quick as possible. Thanks guys!

heh... great link, should be given out more. For now i just want to get a good list of everything. After that i planed on including more, kind of gather all the great info from the board... and put it somewhere where it can help new people so they don't have to ask so many repeated questions. I want to get pictures and generally accepted instructions for various products, so people know how much to apply and can compare their teqnique. I know there are lots of ways to do different things, and the board is to share those... but i think giving people a starting point would be a nice idea. I also think it would be helpfull to give a discription of the different products so people who come across something like SG or PC and don't know what it is, they can look it up have more of an idea about what the discussion is about.

Dr Jones....nice work..:up If you could expand on that list to include other items like techiniques and reviews that would be great.

The link is in the top left of the frame in all the forum pages. IT is next to the link button for the Chat room, email and mod pics.

Anyone have any input on any paint depth guages for Fiberglass (vettes), if so do they make one that is for both metal and fiberglass.

Thanks

There are two types of paint gauges (that I know about).

Ultrasonic- These gauges are for use on composite materials such as fiberglass, carbon fiber, plastic, etc. They use sound waves that ping the substrate below paint to measure depth of each type of paint.

Magnetic- Magnetic gauges are used to measure metals. Some can only measure steel, while most can measure steel and aluminum. Because they use a magnetic you can not measure individual paint layers, but rather the total amount of paint (including primer/base/clear).

To the best of my knowledge there is no company that makes a combination meter (both magnetic and ultrasonic).
