In addition to it's standard bp ("black" a.k.a. soft) I also got polishing bp ("greeen") and supersoft bp ("gray"), plus Festool's sheepskin pad.

Why do u need different backing plates? Are they all the same size?

Bp that comes with it ("black") is meant for generic sanding in woodworking. It is not firm enough to be considered solid and used to bear down for heavy correction nor is it soft enough (for my taste) to be considered similar to flexible backing plate and used comfortable when going over the, say, ridges on the hood.

That is why I got supersoft one, it is much softer, it is closer to being flexible like. That one is what I planned to use majority of the time.

Polishing one is thin, solid, firm, period. Something that I would use when I need to bear down for more aggressive correction or in any other use such plate is better choice.

Also, let's not forget Festool is a sander. Having all plates allows one to use it not just for car polishing but also for number of things around household, from dealing with that garage door and deck in backyard onward. Two birds with same stone, car and house.

Yes, all bp are same size, 6". They make them in one size only because that is how you balance tool to be vibration free, you design for one size and you manufacture your own bps, that way there is no variation in weight and centrigual forces.

ZoranC, I want to buy a new polisher. Can you tell to me if you prefer the flex or the festool? With is better machine? By the design i like more the festool...

And the last question. The festool RO150FEQ is the new model of the RO150E or are diferent machines and both continue selling?

He wont answer this question as he *can't*. I will answer for him though. There were issues with the backing plate staying on the Festool. He sent that back and now has 2 TWO FLEX 3401's.

The Festool is about $150 more than the Flex-roughly $450. The Flex has a much better price point of $270-300. If you want to stay below $150 your choices are the PC, UDM or Ridgid 2611 from Home depot.
