Favorite combo on a RED car?

Hi all,

I've done the Zaino thing for the last 2 car show "seasons", and want to move on. The car is a Matador Red 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30. The once perfect paint has been somewhat neglected (by Autopian standards) this "season" and has lots of micromaring and swirl marks... my only guess is my dad washed it after it was on an open trailer to a show for some 500 miles (it rained all but 50 of them...) not sure how he did it or what he used :nixweiss



My initial plan of attack was going to be:

Clay the car (claymagic & what is left of my Zaino clay)

Wash with Z Carwash (Z7?)

Menzerna IP on a Yellow Lake County pad (on the PC)

Menzerna FP on a LC White pad

Then either WG, EXP or AIO

Possibly topped with S100



So my question to all of you that have done more than one red car (hint hint Scottwax...)In your opinion, what works best... I need the car to glow (it has great body lines IMO), and I want a nice deep wet shine... I am open to all suggestions, as I have yet to purchase any products .... am I missing any steps?

Do some products work better than others on red?

Polish with the Wolfgang polish

Seal with the Wolfgang sealant

Top the sealant with Pinnacle's Souveran

My first inclination is to remind you that if it ain't broke...



If it's just for show--give #7 a shot and do a side-by-side with the Z. From what your pictures suggest, you are in great shape already.

Yup. I have to agree on that one. I've done a lot of red vehicles and I think that would be the best look in my opinion. I haven't used Wolfgang on any red cars yet, but I've used it on black, blue, yellow, white and green. I've been looking for a red car to use it on, but one hasn't presented itself to me. Last year was the year of red and this year seems to be the year of blue. I have no doubt that WG would look absolutely amazing on red and a Souveran topper would improve it even more. I would go two or three coats of WG before the Souveran topper and then call it good. That is the process I'm going to go on my own car for a show in a few weeks. I may use something other than Souveran for the wax topper, but WG is going to be there for sure.

While I haven't used WG or Souveran, I plan to verrry soon and I have read plenty to lead me to believe this IS the combo for red.

Please keep in mind that the car is not quite what it used to be as far as those pictures go.



It has plenty of micromarring that needs to go ...does the WG polish remove micromarring and water spots? Or will I have to use something like Menzerna IP to REMOVE them (not fill them)



It was on an open trailer for 450 miles in the rain (the first its seen of rain in probably 15 years..)..I am concerned about the environmental contamination on the paint...and god know what my Dad did to it when he was trying to help...wouldn't clay be in order?
